Committees The Board shall have four standing committees, populated from its member: The Executive Committee The Executive Committee is composed of the Head, chair, chairelect and chairs of each of the following committees. The Executive Committee plans and monitors activities of the Board over the year; collects committee reports; helps plan the annual meeting of the Board.

Membership Full membership involves a renewable three year term appointment that is initiated by invitation from the Head of the Department. After serving at least one full term on the Board, a member may request emeritus status that allows them to continue to participate in all board activities, but without voting privileges of a full member. Tour of ORNL Facilities: During summer time, the department usually arranges a tour led by ORNL staff for Chemistry Board of Visitors inside Oak Ridge National Lab. The tour shows Board members facilities such as SNS, CNMS and the labs of ORNL-UT joint faculty members.

The Board of Visitors (BoV) of the Department is a group of individuals from among our alumni and industry that committed to helping the department succeed in all of its missions and activities. This group was first founded in 1980 by Gleb Mamantov during his tenure as head of the department. The BoV has a vision of enriching the research and teaching endeavors and the intellectual capital of the Department.

Annual Meeting: Chemistry Department hosts an annual Board of Visitors meeting. All members of the Board are to attend the Annual Meeting. The Department will provide all meals and associated hospitality for members during the Annual Meeting while the Board members are expected to cover the costs associated with travel and lodging. The meeting normally includes • department report • development report • faculty visits • students poster competition judged by BoV members • next year planning • attending a sports event such as football game or basketball game
