The Variety and Breadth of Talent out there was what was so exciting about the event.

About Formula Student Formula Student (FS) is Europe’s most established educational motorsport competition, run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Backed by industry and high profile engineers such as their Patron Ross Brawn OBE, the competition aims to inspire and develop enterprising and innovative young engineers. Universities from across the globe are challenged to design and build a single-seat racing car. They compete at Silverstone Circuit, home of the British Grand Prix, in a three-day event where their car’s performance, design and sustainability as well as the students’ ability to present their business case, is assessed. Diverse range of prestigious industrial organisations such as Mercedes Amg Petronas, Formula One Team, Jaguar, Land rover, National Instruments, Airbus and Shell have shown their tremendous support to the competition by building associations with the participating teams for many years and helping them to shape the Future of Automotive Industry. At FS, our competitors gain crucial practical experience and transferable skills, preparing them for employment in a diverse range of industries.

Vision Designing & developing a light, fast and reliable electric race car that best meets the FSAE vehicle design goals, can be profitably marketed and will successfully complete all dynamic events Represent India on the international platform of Formula Student and set a mark of our technical prowess among fellow teams. Incorporate industry design standards and practices, maintain detailed design documentation, enhance work culture and ethics. Promote professionalism and transparency by streamlining structure and work strategy of the team, defining roles and allocating responsibilities to the smallest detail. Have a sustainable organisation by having a formal three tier system and ensuring smooth passing on of knowledge Build a platform for future cars by undertaking R&D projects

Goals 2014 Our performance in the ‘13 season was appreciated by the judges and peers. But as John Maxwell has said, “If at first you do succeed, try something harder”. This year, we are set to achieve higher goals. Top 20 overall, with a Podium Finish Compete and complete all dynamic and static events Target Weight of 250 kg; a huge improvements over last season’s 338 kg

Reliable electronics and high speed data acquisition for design validation Priority to safety, reliability and overall finish True merit of a car lies in its ability to run very long without the need for servicing. This season we are aiming to not only finish the endurance, but also finishing it in minimum time.

The Team

Every subsystem head is assigned Design Engineers to assist them in the designing process.

Plans Ahead

A goal without a plan is just a wish. To achieve our goals , we have decided to implement the following innovations on the car this season: Develop power-train with compact battery pack, powerful motors and highly efficient planetary gearbox. · Optimize Vehicle Dynamics design, incorporating tire dynamics modeled using tire data provided by the manufacturer. After having successfully used glass-fiber composites in our previous car, this year we are planning to use carbon-fiber composites for the bodywork, seat, battery casing and wheel assembly. Initiate the use of aerodynamics in our car through aerodynamically designed bodywork, thus setting a healthy platform for full fledged aerodynamics future cars.

Where Do You Come Into Picture? »» Over the past couple of years, lack of adequate funds has restricted us from realizing our full potential »» Technical assistance for an International Product Development Competition is a must to compete with the European teams who enjoy collaborations with the European Automotive Industries »» Designing and manufacturing of a highly competitive product requires state of the art technologies that are not within our reach »» Formula Student is a high stake, year long project that has its own share of organizational challenges

Why Should You Get Involved? »» By supporting this project you associate yourself with a truly GREEN INITIATIVE »» Association with a renowned institution like IIT Bombay can go a long way in bridging the gap between academia and industry »» We represent not just IIT Bombay, but the future of the Indian Automotive sector »»

Enhanced reputation amongst FS, Supra and Baja teams of India
