VISITING PROFESSORS SERIES OLAMIDE ALABI, MD, FACS On January 11, the Department of Surgery welcomed Olamide Alabi, MD, FACS, Assistant Professor of Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine and Director of Endovascular Services at the Atlanta VA Medical Center as an Invited Grand Rounds Lecturer in Vascular Surgery. She presented on the topic, “PAD and Health Equity.” Drs. Maunil Bhatt, Olamide Alabi, Erica L. Mitchell and Elianne Rojas stand outside the Elvis Presley Trauma Center at Regional One Hospital in Memphis.
SHERRY WREN, MD, FACS, FCS(ECSA), FISS On April 19, Sherry Wren, MD, served as the UTHSC Global Surgery Institute (GSI) Visiting Professor. Wren is the ViceChair and Professor of Surgery, Director of Global Surgery, Center for Innovation in Global Health at the Stanford University School of Medicine. She is the Director of Clinical Surgery at Palo Alto Veterans Health Care System. She lectured on the topic, “Education and Training of Surgical Workforce: A Solution to the Global Surgery Deficit.”

WAYNE FREDERICK, MD, FACS, MBA On April 26, the Department of Surgery hosted Wayne Frederick, MD, President of Howard University in Washington, D.C. and distinguished Charles R. Drew Professor of Surgery as its UTHSC AOA Distinguished Visiting Professor. Dr. Frederick presented on the topic, “The State of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Medical Profession.”
UTHSC faculty, guests and Dr. Frederick visit the National Civil Rights Museum.
