CORPORATE

TIME AT U.S. LUMBER 14 Years

U.S. LUMBER BRANCH Corporate

Kathryn was born and raised in Atlanta, but attended Auburn University (War Eagle)! She has been married to Vince for 13 years and has two amazing “bonus” sons - Matthew (23) and Daniel (21) and the sweetest rescue mutt, Bella. On the weekend they love to travel, attend concerts, or sporting events. What drew you to U.S. LUMBER originally? And how has U.S. LUMBER changed since? The growth potential of the company and the people I met (Jeff, Ronnie, Ann, Ashley). You could tell that people respected each other, enjoyed what they did and seemed to have a good time at work.

What are three things most people don’t know about you? 1. I’m a secret head banger. I love heavy metal and hard rock. 2. We got married in Vegas and Elvis sang at the reception. 3. I love ghost tours and have even seen a ghost.

SY BROWN Trainee TIME AT U.S. LUMBER 1 Year

U.S. LUMBER BRANCH Corporate

Born and raised in Cordele, Georgia, Sy graduated from Mercer University and played safety on the football team. He joined U.S. LUMBER a little over a year ago and started off in the Atlanta branch warehouse but has since moved to corporate in the finance department. Sy enjoys reading, working out, playing basketball, studying Spanish, and listening to music. He also is a selfproclaimed sauce connoisseur. What knowledge or skills have you gained from working at U.S. LUMBER? My communication skills are improving, and I also have learned to be more patient while becoming a better problem solver.

What advice would you give to recent new hires? There isn’t just one way to do something, so don’t be afraid to write your own path.

MIKE VAN BEEK Inside Sales Representative

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

MIDWEST LUMBER

TIME AT U.S. LUMBER 8 Months

U.S. LUMBER BRANCH Midwest Lumber

Mike has worked in the lumber business since 1986. He has been for married 28 years and has two grown daughters. They live in Monticello, MN. His hobbies include riding bicycles, fishing, boating and spending time at their family cabin in Northern Minnesota. Mike also enjoys cutting fire wood, traveling and working on his cars. What do you enjoy most about your job at U.S. LUMBER? It’s the people we work with and the customers that make my job interesting. Midwest has always been the best distributer in our market, and I consider myself lucky to work here.

Before working at U.S. LUMBER, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had? In the late 1980’s, during college, I worked for a company setting up home TV satellite dish systems; the big 10’ wide ones. It all seemed very high tech at the time; now they’re obsolete.

SCOTT STRUFFERT Warehouse Supervisor TIME AT U.S. LUMBER 17 Years

Born and raised in Banton County, MN, Scott lives on part of his family’s farm which has been there since 1902. He enjoys spending time with his family and pursuing his hobbies such as hunting, fishing, and trapping. What advice would you give to recent new hires?

How do you personally define leadership?

Try to learn one thing a day and remember it. Be positive, you can make work as good or as bad as your attitude makes it.

Teaching your employee what to do and letting them have your trust to do their jobs correctly.

STEVE HARPER Outside Sales Representative TIME AT U.S. LUMBER 10 Years

U.S. LUMBER BRANCH Midwest Lumber

Steve and his family live in St. Louis Park, MN. He and his wife, Jenny, have two boys, Charlie (17) and Henry (14). They spend most of their time traveling and, when the MN winters finally subside, playing as much golf as possible. This March, they are looking forward to their next adventure in Egypt. What drew you to U.S. LUMBER originally? And how has U.S. LUMBER changed since?

What is your most embarrassing moment at U.S. LUMBER?

I was drawn to Midwest Lumber for the opportunity to connect with customers and solve problems. There is no greater reward than cultivating a relationship with a customer to the point you are great friends.

I was melting wax to end coat cedar samples and got pulled away to take a call. When I returned the wax was on fire! I am known as the guy who almost burnt the office down.
