Don’t Read This If You Love Your

Mother-In-Law! Just in Time for Mother's Day If you have never wanted to play a little joke on your mother-in-law then maybe this gift guide isn't for you. On the other hand, if there has been no love lost in your relationship and you want to make your mother-in-law's life as miserable as she's made yours, here are a few ideas to satisfy that dark side and have a little fun in the process. Complicated Universal Remote No universal remote, that we're aware of, configures itself but some of these devices can drive people crazy. One unit that comes up below average in value and user sentiment ratings is the Philips SRU9600 which gets mixed reviews and costs just under $100. Some users complain about the ease-of-use on Sony RM-AX4000 which costs a little over $100. You can provide hours of frustration and misery for your mother in-law as she tries to configure or use one of the remotes. Just About Any Wireless Router Dump a wireless router in the lap of your mother in-law, tell her all about the joys of wireless computing and then split. Just don't answer the phone for a few days while she tries to configure the router to get it to talk to the ten pound laptop you recommended she buy. The Linksys WRVS4400N gets below average sentiment ratings along with the Netgear WNR854T. Save those phone messages too! They may provide hours of entertainment enjoyment to you and all your friends. GPS Devices Guaranteed to Get Your Mother-in-Law Lost Whether it's a small handheld GPS or one on the car dashboard, GPS devices are supposed to make it easy to enter destinations and then get to them. The Magellan Triton 1500 and Alpine PMD-B200 show up on the bottom of most lists for good value and ratings. So when your mother in-law complains about the GPS you bought her, just say, "I've never had any trouble using my GPS." Cameras That Takes Blurry Pictures Buying a digital camera that takes lousy pictures may be harder than you think. Most cameras are idiot proof and some of the better cameras with image stabilization and face technology make it downright hard to take a bad picture. So providing your mother in-law with an idiot-proof product that can make her feel like an idiot is priceless. Most websites can recommend a couple of real bargains in the extreme low-end camera category that will most likely take a less than perfect picture. The Argus DC1512 barely has enough mega pixels to be called a camera and can be purchased for under $30 while the Micro Innovations 3120 costs even less at $10.80 and also gets low ratings. Cheap MP3 Player Your mother-in-law won't be the envy of her bridge club with these low-end MP3 players and they probably won't sound that great either. The Coby MP-C756 MP3 player barely has enough memory to hold a few songs and doesn't get the greatest ratings while the Nextar MA933A holds even fewer songs than the Coby and gets low marks for the display quality. One reviewer notes that the font was "too small for older eyes." Perfect! Now Seriously Folks. . . We all know you would never do anything like this to your poor old mother-in-law so just in case you want to get yourself or someone you love the best values in gadgets or gear, you can find reviews and manuals for all popular electronics like GPS, HDTV, Digital Cameras, Camcorders, and more on Retrevo.com Written by Theresa Della. Sharing History: Cinco De Mayo Even though the holiday originated in Mexico, it has become very popular in the United States; so well, as a matter of fact, that it is more widely and enthusiastically celebrated here than it is in Mexico! There are both historical and cultural reasons for this difference - and of course, you will want to get your students up to speed while keeping them engaged in learning a little more about Mexican and US history at the same time. Depending on the age of your students, the activities and information you will include in your lesson plans will vary. Very young children won't be too likely to retain all of the dates and names which relate to the history of this holiday, but you can still get them thinking about Cinco de Mayo through some fun activities such as making red, white and green tissue paper flowers, which are a popular decoration (as well as fashion accessory) worn by men and women alike in the parts of Mexico where Cinco de Mayo is celebrated. You can also use the opportunity to teach even the youngest of students a little bit of basic Spanish by making a Spanish bingo game as part of your Cinco de Mayo lesson plans. If you're teaching older children, then you have a lot more options available to you and while you may want to include some enjoyable activities as part of your lesson on Cinco de Mayo, you'll definitely want to teach the history of this May 5th holiday and its context in the Maximilian Affair and how this event relates to American history as well.

As you already know, Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862. A lot of people think that the holiday is Mexico's Independence Day, which of course, it is not - think of this as your chance to educate the next generation about the real history behind the holiday. It is a great starting off point to teach your class some lesser known facts about the US Civil War in your Cinco de Mayo lesson plans. Your students may be intrigued to know that the 5th of May was the beginning of Mexico's resistance to France's invasion; resistance which kept Napoleon III's army too busy to assist the breakaway southern states in the Civil War, with whom France was allied. The US repaid the favor following the Union victory in the Civil War, putting a naval blockade in place to prevent the French from resupplying their troops or sending reinforcements as well as sending armaments and other supplies to our allies south of the border. Cinco de Mayo is in many ways a celebration of Mexico and the contributions that Mexican-Americans have made to our own culture, at least for those of us in the United States; and including some of these facts in your Cinco de Mayo lesson plans can add some educational value to this fun and festive day. Heart Lace Crepes This recipe puts whimsy back into breakfast foods– with a squeeze bottle and a little finesse, you can make your own lace crêpes. You’ll find that this crêpe batter is a little bit more fluid than the traditional recipe. The reason being is that the batter needs to be thin enough to flow out of a small tip squeeze bottle. One trick that also helps is to strain your crêpe batter through a fine sieve to remove any clumps that might get stuck when you try to pour your batter onto your pan.

Directions: Lace Crêpe Batter (makes ~ 15 x 5”crepes)

Ingredients: - 1/2 cup flour - 1 egg - 1 cup milk - 1/2 tablespoon sugar - 1/8 teaspoon salt - 1 tablespoon butter (melted) + Non-stick frying pan + plastic squeeze bottle + icing sugar + fine sieve

1.In a large bowl, mix ingredients together (wet-dry method). Whisk, or blend until the batter is smooth and there are no large clumps. 2. Pre-heat a lightly buttered non-stick pan on medium heat. Tilt and pour your batter onto the pan, creating a freehand “lace” pattern. There is a little bit of a learning curve, but after the first 2, I found it quite easy and fun to make random patterns. 3. Cook the crêpes until golden on the bottom, about 2 minutes. Flip and cook the other side until golden. Because of the lace pattern, you can’t exactly fill these crêpes– instead, you can lightly dust them with sugar, or pour your favorite syrup or compote on top. Et Voila! Courtesy of prudentbaby.com

Health & Wellness

Chia Seeds Chia seeds are one of nature's truest super foods. They contain a large number of vital nutrients and are virtually hypoallergenic. They are an excellent source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, protein, fiber, calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, potassium, iron, and zinc as well as antioxidants that can help your body perform better and more efficiently. As a matter of fact, they provide more essential omega-3 and omega-6 than eating fish, and are a great alternative source of these nutrients for vegetarians and those who simply don't like fish. Chia seeds have a long shelf life and are able to be stored for several years without souring or losing potency. This makes buying bulk chia seeds one of the most cost effective solutions. The human digestive system can easily process these seeds without having to grind them down like flax seeds and have a very mild flavor, which allows them to easily be added to any dish without altering the taste or consistency. The organic chia seeds offer the additional nutritional benefit in that they are grown and harvested without the use of harmful pesticides and herbicides, allowing consumers to truly benefit from adding them into their everyday diet plans without the worry of side effects from chemical use. The organic label also means that there are no preservatives or other artificial ingredients added after growing to enhance the color, flavor or shelf life of the seeds. Organic farmers and distributors

adhere to the highest standards for chia seed production that prohibits them from using chemicals of any kind. It is important, however, that consumers look for certified organic chia seed farmers and distributors as this will ensure that the suppliers are following these guidelines. Studies have shown that organic chia seeds have energizing properties that can boost your metabolism and energy to help promote weight loss and provide you with the energy you need to perform at optimal levels all day. The energy provided by chia seeds is released over time, so users experience a stable, constant level of alertness rather than the ups and downs they get from caffeine and sugar. In addition to revving up the metabolism, chia seeds also offer overweight individuals the ability to naturally suppress their appetites. Because the fiber in chia seeds is water soluble, they slow the body's digestion of carbohydrates and provide the feeling of being fuller longer, reducing cravings and appetite. This also aids in the digestive process as more water and fiber will allow solid waste to be more efficiently removed from the body. Those individuals looking for nutritional insurance for their diets but don't want to take a bevy of supplements, those looking to shed a few pounds and even those looking for a natural energizer than promotes digestive health need look no farther than chia seeds. Residential move is quite a tedious and hectic job. The most irritating and time consuming part of relocation is packing and storing the belongings to be delivered safely to the right destination. In that you need to look for safe and durable cartons to store your valuables. Cardboard packing boxes are most convenient materials to pack different types of goods to be transported. 1. Finding A Reputable Real Estate Agent 6 Tips To Help You Find Your Perfect Agent

One of the most important things to do when purchasing a home is to find a great real estate agent to make the process flow smoothly and effectively. A question many people ponder is how to find a good real estate agent. The best agent may not necessarily work at one of the top ten agencies in the area. The agent who will work best for you would be an experienced agent who will listen to your needs, act in a professional and ethical manner and knows the market in your area. 1.)Word-of-Mouth or Referral Most real estate professionals attract a sizable amount of business because of a satisfied client who recommends them to a friend, family member or neighbor. When you are thinking of purchasing a home, it is a good idea to ask those around you who they have used and ask them to elaborate on their specific experience with the real estate agent in question. Successful real estate agents strive to make customer satisfaction their number one priority and will do everything they can to facilitate a good experience for a customer. Try to find an agent that has a proven track record and reputation for delivering quality service, customer satisfaction, and have experience in the neighborhoods that you are looking in. 2.) Do an Online Search For Real Estate Agents There are many online resources available when searching for a real estate agent referral, but this by no means ensures quality. The agents referred online may have paid a fee to the website owner to be listed in the directory. Performing a Google search of the top agents in your area and then reviewing their websites will give you a good list of agents to interview. Agents who have experience in the field will tell you, but a newer agent will more than likely have the extra time to spend working with you. Review any customer testimonials or feedback about an agent you may be interested in retaining. 3.) Visit Open Houses in the Area You should visit some area open houses where you can actually meet with a potential agent in a non-threatening manner. Here you can see how they work, collect business cards, formulate an opinion and talk with them on a personal basis. If you are thinking about selling a

home, pay close attention to how the agent presents the home. Make sure the agent is polite, informative, approachable and professional. Does the agent promote the home by handing out professional looking feature sheets or other related materials? Is the agent trying to play up the features that make the home more enticing? Or is the agent in the corner, back turned and uninvolved in the whole scenario? 4.) Pay Attention to Real Estate Signs Carefully monitor the real estate signs in your neighborhood. Observe how long from the day they go up until the home is actually sold. An agent who has a high sales turnover might be a better choice than an agent who has lots of for sale signs but few sold signs. An agent who gets results is what you want. 5.) Why Agents Use Printed Advertising There are two main reasons real estate agents use printed advertisement. First is to advertise and sell a specific piece of real estate. Secondly, advertising is used to promote the agent handling the transaction. By checking the local Sunday real estate ads in your neighborhood and then checking the agents website, you can find the agents who may specialize in your particular neighborhood. Contact the agent and inquire about their expertise and ask any other relative questions you may have. 6.) Seeking Recommendations from Other Real Estate Professionals Ask around and seek out other real estate agents for a referral. Most agents are happy to refer a buyer or seller to another associate, if the service you require is not a specialty they can provide. Some agents only specialize in resale property, while others work predominantly with the sale of new homes. Other agents work exclusively with commercial or investment properties. Mortgage brokers are a great resource for agent referrals; many brokers have first-hand knowledge and can point you in the direction of a topquality real estate agent and remember professionals tend to refer like-minded peers. There is also typically a referral fee involved for the referring professional so be careful that they refer you to the best Agent not the one that pays the highest referral fee.

Jekyll Island, GA

If you have Georgia on your mind, or in particular, a historic and scenic slice of Georgia with enough activities to keep you and your family busy for the duration of a satisfying holiday, then consider a trip down to Jekyll Island. Located in the southwest corner along the Atlantic coast, this jewel of a place holds its own along with the rest of the charming and ideal vacation locations in this area. Known specifically for a colorful history that includes mention of Native Americans, English colonization, French ownership, and a group of wealthy landowners know as the Jekyll Island Club, it is now largely designated as a historical landmark district, and can be toured and explored in order to uncover all the influences and hidden personality quirks that make it so rich today. The district can be investigated on one’s own, or guided tours are available to fill you in on all the details. If affluence and high society interest you, the gilded era, which found the island inhabited by the country’s elite during the winters, can be revisited by means of museums and shuttles that navigate through what is known as “Millionaire Village.” Restored cottages will allow you see how the lucky ones lived, and the well-educated tour guides will tell you all about the customs and habits of this fascinatingly out-of-theordinary group of people. If you’re here for the beaches, you’ll have ten miles of shell-filled, peaceful coastline at your disposal. Lounging in the sun and swimming away the afternoon are the perfect pursuits for a Jekyll Island vacation, so be sure to properly appreciate the gifts of this barrier island. It is also designated an “Important Birding Area” by the Georgia Audubon Societies, so keep your eyes open for any number of exotic and migrating species that may be sitting in the trees or searching the surf for their next meal. To get up close and personal to the salt marshes and estuaries, take a plunge and rent a kayak or a canoe. Guided tours will point out all the sights of this interesting ecosystem, but don’t be afraid to head out on your own for a peaceful adventure filled with unfamiliar yet inviting glimpses of a whole new world. The Tidelands Nature Center will allow you to further acquaint yourself with the marine life, particularly the shy creatures like

alligators, snakes, sea turtles, and hermit crabs. Wandering the dunes, chartering a sail boat, and heading out on horse back are a few more ways to see the untrammeled beauty of this protected island. You won’t necessarily feel like you’re out in the wilderness every second of the day, however, being that there are plenty of golf courses, tennis courts, and shopping opportunities to keep you busy in a different way. Expansive greens, clay surfaces, and antique and specialty stores distinguish Jekyll Island from so many other tourist traps, a feature you’ll come to appreciate more and more as your stay goes on. Twenty miles of paved bicycle paths make for another fun and healthy way to spend your day. They can be rented or brought from home, either way making for a fresh-air filled and family-oriented means of transporting yourselves from one end of the island to another, perhaps stopping for a picnic at your halfway point. A water park will further please the kiddies (and the young at heart) and if you’re up for day trips, consider traipsing over to one of the other vacation hotspots. St. Simons Island, Darien, St. Mary’s, Cumberland, and others would all be worth a look, so if the wandering spirit overtakes you, go for it, and still be home in time for supper. A number of special events will further entice you to get out and enjoy the view from Jekyll Island, so hopefully your stay here will correspond with a fun celebration or gathering. The annual Beach Music Festival is a big one, and organized turtle and hatchling walks are frequent occurrences that illustrate the lives of the island’s precious wildlife while educating the public as well. It’s a vacation all year round here, so you’ll surely feel like making merry no matter what the season. Finally, to top it all off, consider renting a vacation property for your Jekyll Island holiday. The amenities and conveniences of a beach home or poolside condo are unrivaled, and we all know that things just go better when everyone has enough space. Set yourself up for success and earn the praise of your fellow travelers by going online to reserve a Jekyll Island Vacation Rental that will complete your Georgia getaway. Businesses That Make A Difference

Target Corporation is consistently ranked as one of the most philanthropic companies in the US. It

ranked #11 in Fortune Magazine's "Top 20 Most Admired Companies" for 2007, largely in part to the donation efforts of the company as a whole. Target donates around 5 percent of its pre-tax operating profit; it gives over $3 million a week to the communities in which it operates. It also gives a percentage of charges from its Target Visa to schools designated by the cardholders. To date, Target has given over $150 million to schools across the United States through this program.

During disasters, Target has been a major benefactor for relief efforts.

Further evidence of Target's philanthropy can be found in the Target House complex in Memphis, Tennessee, a long-term housing solution for families of patients at the city's St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The corporation led the way with more than $27 million in donations, which made available 96 fully furnished apartments for families needing to stay at St. Jude over 90 days.

Target provided monetary and product donations during the September 11 attacks; it also donated money for relief efforts for the 2004 tsunami in South Asia and donated $1.5 million (U.S.) to the American Red Cross in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. It also allowed its store properties in the affected area to be used as command centers for relief organizations. It also donated supplies such as water and bug spray. Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is a celebration held on May 5. It is celebrated in the United States and in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla, where the holiday is called El Dia de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla). It originated with Mexican-American communities in the American West as a way to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War, and today the date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguin. Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day-the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico-which is celebrated on September 16. Events tied to Cinco de Mayo also occur outside Mexico and the United States. As in the United States, celebrations elsewhere also emphasize Mexican cuisine, culture and music. For example, Windsor, Ontario, holds an American-style "Cinco de Mayo Street Festival", some Canadian pubs play Mexican music and serve Mexican food and drink, and a sky-diving club near Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, holds a Cinco de Mayo skydiving event, In the Cayman Islands, in the Caribbean, there is an annual Cinco de Mayo air guitar competition. and at Montego Bay, Jamaica, there is a Cinco de Mayo celebration. The city of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, holds an annual Mexican Festival to honor the day, and celebrations are held in London and New Zealand. American-style celebrations of the day can also be found in Paris. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in Tokyo, Japan in Yoyogi Park Event Space as a celebration of all the Americas and not just Mexican culture.
