Purpose Statement The USCB nursing program responds to regional needs by preparing qualified graduates who hold the Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. The USCB nursing program provides a student-centered learning environment whereby graduates have the clinical, emotional, and social foundations for leadership within the profession whether engaged in direct care of patients, management, education, or research.

BSN Program Program Goals The USC-Beaufort Department of Nursing endorses the goals of Liberal Education for Baccalaureate Generalist Nursing Practice as delineated in The Essentials of Baccalaureate Nursing Education (2008), American Association of Colleges of Nursing, p. 12. Accordingly the baccalaureate program prepares the graduate to: • • • • • • • • •

Integrate theories and concepts from liberal education into nursing practice. Synthesize theories and concepts from liberal education to build an understanding of the human experience. Use skills of inquiry, analysis, and information literacy to address practice issues. Use written, verbal, non-verbal, and emerging technology methods to communicate effectively. Apply knowledge of social and cultural factors to the care of diverse populations. Engage in ethical reasoning and actions to provide leadership in promoting advocacy, collaboration, and social justice as a socially responsible citizen. Integrate the knowledge and methods of a variety of disciplines to inform decision making. Demonstrate tolerance for the ambiguity and unpredictability of the world and its effect on the healthcare system. Value the ideal of lifelong learning to support excellence in nursing practice.
