Education Committee Announces New Instructor Procedures and Position

The goal of the Education Committee is for every club to have certified instruction available for players. Over the past two years, the committee has explored new ways to expand access to instructor certification. Multiple paths are now available to provide each club with instructors. To become an American Six Wicket Certified Instructor applicants must meet the following requirements: • Must be a USCA member in good standing. • Must be an American Six Wicket referee. • Must have achieved a 6 handicap at some time in their croquet career. Applicants will demonstrate knowledge of the various strategies of the game and the ability to successfully communicate with learners using various instruction methods. To achieve this requirement, applicants may use any of the following pathways:

• Attend a USCA American Six Wicket school as a student teacher. • Work with a Class I National Instructor over an extended period, who will write a recommendation on behalf of the candidate. • Submit a video demonstrating the required skills to the Education Committee. • Attend and complete a USCA American Six Wicket School for Instructors (in development).

Designated Coach

In addition to the Certified Instructor programs, the Education Committee recognizes many members have been teaching in their clubs, but may not choose to pursue certification. For those members, the Education Committee has created a Designated Coach position, which represents a new category of instructor.
