ARTICLES The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), which USA Volleyball was one of 12 founding members back in 1948, now has some 220 National Federations. The publications can be found at these links: Volleyball: http://bit.ly/TOCUpe Beach Volleyball: http://bit.ly/UTNnGy Scientific American recently produced an entire issue on the science of genius, with articles of value for coaches: http://bit.ly/QoCnP3 BOOK/MOVIE SUGGESTIONS “Mindset: The New Psychology of Success”, written by Carol Dweck, is an important read for any coach or parent. She notes how you’ll reach new heights if you learn to embrace the occasional tumble. If you don’t get the book, you can email mvp@usav.org and we will send you a USOC article covering this important information which was shared in Olympic Coach in 2009. Stanford Magazine synopsis of Mindset: http://stanford.io/UWczZl TECHNOLOGY TIPS Sportalyzer (http://bit.ly/117Tuqp) is a new sport analyzing program worth a look in studying movement in any sport, including volleyball. In sharing this info with the U.S. Olympic Committee earlier this month, USOC Sport Performance Director Peter Vint also noted that Dartfish’s new iOS system is pretty easy to use for a smart device app, which can be found here: http://bit.ly/Y27rbH Hidden Gems The tradition of pepper is a powerful one, but better options exist than one that teaches hitters to spike right at a defender, and the defender to be skilled at digging back to a spiker. Check out “The Evolution of Pepper” - http://bit.ly/TrW8pi - which has also recently been translated both into Spanish and Japanese. USA Volleyball thanks you for your help in growing the game together! Let us know what else we can do to help you, just email mvp@usav.org.
