My kayak fishing addiction started nearly 15 years ago, after seeing YouTube videos from Chad Hoover and Jeff Little. I was already a bass fishing junkie, but kayaking gave me a way to explore small, untapped waters. It also allowed me to take lots of short trips before or after work without a lot of prep time. After roughly 10 years of kayaking just for fun, the tournament bug bit me in 2021. That led to a few crazy years of traveling the country to compete in KBF, Hobie and Bassmaster events. Though I’m no Rus Snyders, I lucked into a few trophies during that time. And though my tournament pace has slowed, I still plan to compete as often as possible. Finally, since the fall of ‘23, I’ve had the opportunity to host a fishing-themed podcast, Kayak Fishing Weekly, with the guys at the Serious Angler Network. NATIVE TITAN X
Native came out swinging during ICAST 2023 with the introduction of the Titan X. The Titan X comes in two different sizes with the 10.5 and the 12.5. This is by far the most stable kayak I have ever been in. The Titan X gives you custom battery storage in both the front hatch and behind the seat. My favorite feature of the Titan X is the ergonomics of the seating and pedal position. This allows
you to pedal the kayak in an upright seating position which allows you to fish more effectively while in motion. This is where a lot of pedal drive kayaks fall short. The one negative thing I will say about the Titan X is that the rear battery storage in the 10.5 model does not cater to most battery setups for trolling motors. I would definitely go for the 12.5 model if motors are in your future.

BONAFIDE PWR129
Number one on my list is definitely the PWR129 from Bonafide. I have a lot of experience with this kayak and it is one of the best values in a fishing kayak I have ever seen. Comparing the PWR129 ($1999) to the Nucanoe Unlimited ($1799), you get front hatch
storage, foot controlled rudder steering, a high/low seat position, and better rod storage built in. Those that prefer the wide open deck space will still go with the Unlimited, but I just love how the PWR129 is laid out.

Created by Nucanoe back in 2021, the Unlimited offers the most customizable kayak ever made. At $1799 (2024) the Unlimited gives you the ability to motorize both bow mount and stern mount motors, Pivot Drive adds pedal drive capability, and the first kayak to
have a millenium 360 swivel seat. The wide open space that the 41” wide deck offers endless possibilities and gives the angler the ability to build out the kayak incrementally instead of having to buy everything all at once.

Crescent Kayak has really come on strong in the last 4 years for creating kayaks that are designed to be paddled and features that improve performance and value. The Shoalie is no stranger to this concept with several featues designed to give a river/creek fishing kayak option

Jake Suvak started kayak fishing in 2016 and began competing in 2018. Since then, he has fished competitively in several national events and even made his way into international competition in 2024 fishing as a member of the United States Kayak Fishing Team in the 2024 Kayak Fishing Pan American Championship.
