The Rhythmic World Championships took place July 12-14 in New Orleans, La., the first time on US. soiL The reigning World and Olympic Champions from Russia performed to near perfection in order to win the gold medal followed by Belarus in second and Greece in third.

JUNIOR WOMEN In the junior women's competition, Carly Patterson won her first Junior
National All-Around title, followed by her teammate Hollie Vise and Chellsie Memmel, who finished third. The junior women were top-notch with amazing difficulty and will certainly prove their world-class potential as they move into the senior ranks.
JUNIOR MEN Sho Nakamori won the 16-18 junior men's title while Taqiy Abdullah won the 14-15 junior men's title. The top seven gymnasts from each group qualified to a position on the Junior National Team.

RHYTHMIC In the Rhythmic venue there was a new name and face among the senior
competitors. Meet two-time Canadian National Champion Mary Sanders - the new US. National Champion. In the junior competition, Kristin Kaye finished first, winning her first national title.

SPORTS ACROBATICS The 2002 Sports Acrobatics Team Trials took place in the Exhibit Hall of National Congress. This event, along with the National Championships held in New Orleans, selected the National Team, World Championships Team, and the World Age Group Games Team.

TRAMPOLINE AND TUMBLING The Trampoline and Tumbling action was incredible with gymnasts flipping, twisting, bouncing and bounding on trampoline, double mini, synchronized trampoline and tumbling. It was truly amazing to see the level of difficulty that took place. Jennifer Parilla and Ryan Weston won the trampoline competition and competed new skills as well.

2002 SPORTS ACROBATICS ELITE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS The top 42 sports acrobatics athletes in the u.s. went head-to-head for the title of "National Champion" while competing in New Orleans. The competition was exceptionally intense and proved the depth of the US. Sports Acrobatics athletes.
