My name is Mitchell Asante, President of The Interfraternity Council (IFC) at URI, and I am excited to meet all the potential new members. I am eager to welcome all of you to our community.

Being a college student is both a challenging and rewarding experience. With that being said, one of the best ways to ensure that you will receive the most out of these opportunities and experiences is by joining a fraternity. We are founded upon the values of Fellowship, Leadership, Scholarship, and Community Service. The Greek community here at University of Rhode Island is composed of 2 councils that are made up of 25 fraternities and sororities that encompass over 3,000 students at URI. More specifically, IFC is made up of 15 fraternity organizations and over 1,500 male students on campus.

Membership in a fraternity opens the door for a variety of involvement on the URI campus. We work hand in hand with the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, to ensure that we are constantly pushing our members to reach their full potential but also to continue to be one of the premier Greek Life communities in the northeast and the nation. Initially coming to campus I was unsure if Greek Life was for me. However, the first semester of my Freshman year I made one of the best decisions of my college career to accept a bid to join a fraternity. Since then, my leadership skills have been built over the past 3 years serving on IFC and as President of my fraternity. I found a group of guys that exemplified my values and I can promise you the same if you take the first step to become a member of our community.

I encourage you to take part in our recruitment process and most importantly find a chapter that fits your values. I also encourage you to reach out to myself or our Director of Recruitment with any questions regarding anything about our community and the membership process.

- Mitchell Asante, IFC PRESIDENT 2021 - 2022

How’s it going everyone! My name is Ryan Hassell and I am this years Director of Recruitment for the Interfraternity Council at URI!

First off, I want to welcome you all to URI, graduating through the pandemic must have been a weird way to end High School but I assure you that the start to your college career is looking pandemic free.I’m very excited to say that we are planning an entirely in person recruitment process! There will be more information as the summer goes on but for now all you need to do is sign up for recruitment and follow @uri_ifc on Instagram!

Joining Greek life is an incredible thing. Forget all of the stigmas that surround it because Greek Life at URI is truly something you can’t find anywhere else. Not only will you make friends for life within whatever fraternity you end up getting in but the sense of Greek Life as an entire community will become clear as you meet and become close with guys and girls in other chapters around the campus!

I rushed my first semester at URI as a Freshman even though I really wasn’t into the Fraternity scene but I’m so glad that I did because in my 3 years at URI as a student of Greek Life I have gained friends, connections, and even job opportunities through my chapter. Greek Life will help make URI feel like home.

Enjoy your winter break and I’m looking forward to meeting you in the spring!

- Ryan Hassell, IFC DIRECTOR OF RECRUITMENT 2021 - 2022
