Cuomo announced that the Great New York State Fair broke the highest singleday attendance record in its long history today, Saturday, August 31, as 147,749 fairgoers visited the fair. This broke the previous all-time high, 134,115, set last year on Saturday, August 25. It is also the fifth daily attendance record of the 2019 Fair, as total attendance crossed the 1.1 million mark and began to close in on the total attendance record of 1,279,010 with just two more days to go. This year, nine out of the 11 days have either set new daily attendance records or finished second.

Fairgoers also crowded into the livestock barns to see some of the 10,000 animals on display during the Fair and a large crowd enjoyed one of the highlights of the annual horse show – the North American Classic Six Horse Hitch show. Twenty-seven teams of horses pulled ornate wagons and drivers in fancy dress around the Toyota Coliseum, in what is likely to be the second-largest such show in America this year.

Following Push by Brindisi, Local FOX, ABC, and NBC Stations Return to DirecTV Customers Brindisi: Our Communities Depend on Local News; I Will Continue Holding Big Cable Companies Accountable Congressman Anthony Brindisi released the following statement on Friday August 30, 2019 after reports that Nexstar and cable giant AT&T had reached a resolution to local blackouts: “Finally, these blackouts have come to an end. When big cable companies stop airing local stations it puts our communities at risk. Many New

Yorkers depend on local television to find out about breaking news, traffic accidents, and important weather events. I’m glad to see these stations back on the air, and I will continue working to hold these big cable companies accountable.” Earlier this year, Brindisi called on AT&T to negotiate in good faith with local broadcasters. Brindisi sent a letter to local broadcasters and DirecTV’s parent company, AT&T, expressing his frustrations with the blackouts and the lack of progress in negotiations. Brindisi’s entire letter to both parties can be viewed HERE.

New York State Fair: You Can’t Get There from Here hours to run errands if you’re waiting on that bus. Economic Development also has to involve how are we going to get all of those people into 315 acres creating the 6th largest city for a few weeks in late August. Imagine if we connected the dots?

At first there’s excitement at the prospect of having a day at the Great New York State Fair especially after the states’ investment of well over 100 million in recreating the fairgrounds. The expanded Mid-Way, the new areas spaced where it was easier to get around and see all of the attractions. The St. Joseph’s Healthcare Amphitheater has attracted acts that would never come here, the bands come our hotels and eateries fill. Unfortunately, with growth you have problems, more people more traffic, more traffic jams. Getting to and from the fairgrounds needs to be a priority moving forward. It’s like going to en-

joy the day and end up spending more time waiting on a highway than having fun at the fair. We have rail that could be used to connect the fairgrounds with the Walsh Transportation Hub, downtown and Syracuse University. Failure to tackle this problem can cause people to rethink their attendance. In addition, tying in the fairgrounds with a comprehensive transportation plan would be true economic development.

Connect our major entertainment venues with a modern system of buses, trains and whatever it takes to move us forward. Failure to address our transportation issues can possibly undo the millions invested around Onondaga Lake and the fairgrounds. We are still moving people in and out of a modernized fairground with methods not changed since the Ford Model T. If we’re going to invest in the fairgrounds think about the family waiting in a car for 2 hours, or the concert goer who’s flown in for a concert only to be caught up in a transit nightmare. If we want people to utilize our facilities, we need to be better at creating a positive experience that begins well before you get to the main gate.

We create venues that are difficult to access, buses that run so infrequently that it takes 4

Review: Syracuse Stage Presents Bold World Premier ‘Thoughts of a Colored Man’ Looks into What African American Men are Thinking by Ken Jackson

As the sun rises on an ordinary day in New York, seven men are about to discover the extraordinary. “Thoughts of a Colored Man” blends powerful language, music and dance into a daringly universal new play. – Syracuse Stage There have been plays about Black men, however many are oversimplified, lacking depth presenting a distorted portrayal of African American men. Thoughts of a Colored Man creates a window, giving insight into what men of color are thinking. Written by Keenan Scott II and directed by Steve H. Governor Cuomo and Connecticut Governor Lamont Announce Joint State Partnership to Develop Uniform Approach to E-Cigarettes and Legal Cannabis Program States to Hold Summit with Key Law Enforcement, State Health and Policy Officials in October to Develop Guidelines and Principles for Vaping and Legalization of Cannabis Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and Governor Ned Lamont today announced a strategic partnership between New York and Connecticut to develop a uniform regional approach to policies on ecigarettes and legal cannabis. On October 17, officials from law enforcement, state health officials and policy makers representing both states will hold a summit to develop guidelines and principles that will benefit the two states’ vaping oversight and cannabis legalization and help keep New York and Connecticut residents safe.

so it is up to the states to develop policies that will help keep people safe,” Governor Cuomo said. “Policies governing vaping products and recreational marijuana will require regional symmetry because it makes little sense for one state to do something if a neighboring state has a totally different policy – without coordination, you end up incentivizing people to drive over the border to buy a different or cheaper product. To that end, it’s common sense for our states to be aligned in numerous policy areas. New York State Department of Labor and SUNY Empire State College Announce Partnership to Help Prepare Job Seekers for Emerging Careers Empire State Career Connector Will Bridge Emerging Job Opportunities and SUNY Empire Programs to Help Workers Adapt to Evolving Workforce Demands The New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) and SUNY Empire State College (SUNY Empire) signed an agreement to create the Empire State Career Connector, a program to connect individuals to growing jobs sectors and the education they’ll need to take advantage of emerging opportunities. Technological innovations, demographic shifts, and globalization are rapidly changing our world of work. At the same time many New York businesses are facing a shortage of qualified workers, often because of skills gaps that require some form of additional education or training. These changes and shortages create new career opportunities for New York’s workforce right now and in the future. The Empire State Career Connector will help prepare workers for the future and address workforce gaps today.

“The demands of the workforce are changing rapidly, and we need to think differently about how we educate people in this new world,” said SUNY Empire State College President Jim Malatras. “The changing workforce requires continuous education through upskilling and our partnership with the Department of Labor will help people identify job opportunities near them and connect with the education they’ll need to advance their careers. I commend Commissioner Roberta Reardon and her team, and those at SUNY Empire who have worked so well in creating this innovative program.”

aerosol industry and flavors are largely responsible for the dramatic increase in use of ecigarettes by youth and are a principal reason that youth initiate and maintain e-cigarette use. The Governor also directed State Police and DOH to immediately partner to ramp up enforcement efforts against retailers who sell to underage youth, with the possibility of criminal penalties, in addition to announcing that he will advance legislation to ban deceptive marketing of ecigarettes to teens and children. The Department of Health will provide retailers in New York with an approximate two-week grace period before conducting visits to enforce the flavoring ban beginning on Friday, October 4. Local health departments and the Department’s District Offices, with State oversight, will handle enforcement. New York retailers who violate the ban will face fines of up to $2,000 per violation, which is defined as each unit of flavored e-liquid or product containing e-liquid that is possessed, manufactured, sold or offered for sale.
