2015 Annual Report

The moment is now.

What an historic year this has been for Up with People. Coming on the heels of our first visit to Israel the 50th Anniversary celebration began with our first invitation to Cuba where thousands of students welcomed our cast members from 21 countries. January saw the debut of our new show The Journey which celebrates the impact of over 22,000 alumni who have shared the Up with People experience. The year culminated in Orlando, Florida where thousands of alumni and friends gathered to celebrate the past and launch the next half century. Throughout this year we were proud of the members of Cast B 2014 and Cast A 2015 who lived with hundreds of host families, performed their show celebrating our common humanity, volunteered thousands of hours of community service and inspired youth in each city to make a positive difference in their schools, communities and world.

Up with People’s mission couldn’t be more needed than it is right now!

As you will see in this publication, this past year has garnered the support of many who have made an investment in Up with People! We are an organization that depends on the support of alumni, sponsors, foundations, host families, and many friends. We are humbled and honored at the level of engagement, commitment and passion from all of these generous supporters. Thank you for believing in the mission of Up with People! Your commitment ensured the success during this milestone year. Today our world is increasingly divided by race, ethnicity, and religious or political polarization. We see increased mistrust of those “different” from us which often leads to violence. In this environment, our youth are seeking ways of developing the qualities and values of global citizenship. Up with People’s mission couldn’t be more needed than it is right now! A Year of Celebration UWP’s 50th Anniversary Gala More than 400 UWP alumni and supporters gathered for our fourth annual Gala on Saturday, April 25, 2015 in Denver presented by Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in association with Elite Brands. More than $300,000 was raised for UWP and its programs at the Gala which is now becoming a “don’t miss” event.

First Visit to Cuba

UWP’s Visit to Cuba is One to Remember In October 2014, UWP’s Cast B 2014 traveled to Cuba for the first time in the organization’s history via special permission from Fernando Rojas, the Vice Minister of Culture in Cuba.

UWP and Kiwanis Continue to Work Together In exchange for visibility and recognition with Kiwanis’ family clubs, UWP has taken an active role in promoting the Kiwanis brand which aligns well with UWP’s mission.

“UWP is more relevant now than ever. When I visited Camp UWP, I felt a part of a big family full of people who care. A total of 23 students successfully completed the Study Abroad program through Florida Southern University during the 2015 fiscal year.
