THE IMPACT OF FURNITURE ON A HOSPITALITY ENVIRONMENT

Furniture plays a key role in any hospitality business, so selecting the right furniture can be a challenge. You need to consider your clientele, what they will be expecting from the space, the size of the area and the colours and finishes you think will draw people in and make them feel welcome. Jason Brown, Director of Design & Development at Knightsbridge Furniture, highlights the impact the furniture choices you make can have on a hospitality environment.

First impressions are so important, when you first walk into an establishment, you can tell a lot just by scanning around the room. Take the lobby or reception areas for example, they’re the first room a visitor will see and they need to set the tone for the rest of the building. Client research will massively impact this, if you’re based in a busy city and a lot of people visit on business, they will probably be expecting something sleek, sophisticated and bright with lots of work stations, close access to plug sockets for charging devices and comfortable seating if they have to wait for long periods of time.

On the other hand, if you often get families and large groups visiting – you might consider something more family friendly with lots of soft furnishings and comfortable sofas, but nothing to encourage long periods of time spent in the lobby when it gets busy. Creating an environment that meets your customers’ expectations is key to them staying loyal to your brand.

Combining comfort and practicality can be a difficult balance, furniture pieces need to be easy to clean and manoeuvre if needed, but still comfortable and inviting. Vinyl fabrics are easiest to wipe down and clean quickly, whereas soft fabrics may require more in depth cleaning techniques. There’s no right material to use, it completely depends on your environment. Finding a balance between the two can be made simple by getting in touch with a contract furniture manufacturer.

When it comes to colour schemes, you can play it safe by sticking to neutral, earthy colours to create a calming environment. Alternatively, you can select colours such as red, yellows and blues to create a vibrant and exciting atmosphere. The colours you pick should align with your brand for consistency, while meeting expectations.

Knightsbridge Furniture is a contract furniture company that offers a range of commercial services for hospitality business. We have decades of experience crafting bespoke furniture pieces that are luxury, adaptable and versatile so you can create the perfect lounge space, waiting room, bedroom, dining room and/or foyer.

As you have read, there are many reasons why you should carefully consider the furniture you purchase for your hospitality business. Understand your customer and what they expect from you, consider the colours you use, the comfortability and the practicality of the furniture you select

and whether the style of furniture you want really aligns with the feel of your brand. Working alongside a contract furniture company can take the stress out of selecting the right furniture for your space.

Winning Ways For Father’s Day And Football

Elevate your Offering with American Craft Beer

This month brings together two hospitality generating events – the start of the Football Euros 2024 from 14th June and Father’s Day on 16th June.

4 Hotelier & Hospitality Design

Both provide opportunities to increase footfall in your venue and to stock up on that most football friendly of beveragesbeer! Sunday 16th June presents the double-whammy of Father’s Day followed by England playing their first fixture against Serbia in the evening. American craft beer with its full flavour, innovative use of ingredients/brewing techniques and style variety is ideal for keeping your thirsty customers hydrated and pairing with appropriate food dishes to enhance customer retention in your venue. Whether you’re catering for a family celebration with dad or a football focused, fodder-filled evening amongst friends you’ll need enticing beer-pairing ideas, such as:

5 Hotelier & Hospitality Design
Pilsner Lager with burger and chips – a classic, fully loaded staple beer pairing that benefits from the gentle hop bite of a pilsner. Pale Ale with pizza – the doughy base of the pizza will blend perfectly with the zingy hop flavour notes in the beer and the high level of carbonation will strip away any fat content left on the palate

IPA with steak sandwich - the bold intense flavours of an American IPA will stand up to the meaty, richness of a steak.

Porter and meat platter – a mound of ribs, sausage, steak with a rich, toasty porter is a match made in heaven. Both benefit from the Maillard reaction, a chemical process that occurs when meat is seared or grilled that produces a sweet, caramelisation akin to ‘char’ on the surface. Roasted malts found in porters undergo the same process and pair well with these types of foods.

6 Hotelier & Hospitality Design

Remember the three main interactions of pairing beer with food a) complementing; when the ingredients in a dish harmonise with the flavours of the beer b) contrasting; when the dominant flavour of a dish contrasts with the flavour profile of the beer, eg. sweet v sour or sweet v bitter and c) cutting; the carbonation in beer cuts through high fat content or creamy foods to cleanse the palate after every mouthful. The bitterness of hops lifts fat from the palate and a sweet finish cuts away any acidic flavours.

American craft beer provides a point of difference and is worth stocking because American craft brewers produce award-winning beers using high-quality raw materials, technical brewing expertise, a ‘can-do’ attitude and an unswerving commitment to quality from grain to glass. The UK remains an important export market for American craft beer with 7.9% of all exports, the third biggest market outside Canada and the Caribbean. In the UK, American craft beer is available from on-line retailers such as Athletic Brewing, Sierra Nevada shop, or selected national wholesalers.

Chefs and restauranteurs are invited to make use of the free resources available on www.brewersassociation.org or www.craftbeer.com

And if you’re pulling out all the stops for Father’s Day, stout with oysters – the salty, briny taste of the sea is an ideal match for a dark, roasty, complex dry stout that balances salinity with bittersweetness.

“We were honoured to be asked by Peter Marino Architect and the procurement team at Argenta Projects to develop many of the fabrics that make up the beautifully designed rooms and suites at The Peninsula, bringing together the best of British craftsmanship and embellished ornate detailing. Hong Kong Shanghai Hotels provided an impressively detailed set of specifications, reflecting their exacting quality standards. It was the most challenging list of requirements I have encountered for a project. However, in developing and creating all the fabrics from scratch, we learnt an enormous amount that has proved to be incredibly useful on other projects. This is part and parcel of the work that we do daily to ensure that we provide the most appropriate and practical materials to our clients in line with the desired aesthetic and quality.” comments Fameed.

The studio is also working separately with several interior designers on several the 26 private residences within The Peninsula.

BLOOMING GREAT! A GIN FOR SUMMERTIME

26 Hotelier & Hospitality Design

Helford based, family run Artisan distillery, Rosemullion, are delighted to announce that their Summer Gin is again a Category Winner in the recent 2024 Gin Guide Awards; it has won this award two years out of the last 3, which demonstrates consistency.

SUMMERTIME SUCCESS

27 Hotelier & Hospitality Design

This prestigious accolade now brings their award tally to 64, making Rosemullion one of the most awarded distilleries in the country. Their winning cycle, which began in 2019, is all the more remarkable for this small but dedicated distillery as it has continually outperformed bigger or more long established brands in doing so well for so long.

The Gin Guide Awards are the world’s largest independent Gin Awards and they lead the Industry with the most rigorous judging process, the most extensive feedback, and with categories that are the most relevant and in touch with industry trends. Widely recognized and highly respected by the trade and consumers across the world, The Gin Guide Awards celebrate and give global recognition to the exceptional products, distilleries and people within the gin industry.

Rosemullion’s Summer Gin is a fresh gin with a citrus kick, infused with Cornish elements to provide a refreshing yet warming gin – perfect for summer evenings.

Rosemullion’s continuing success story owes a lot to the background of its founders Liz and Andy Bradbury –both are chemists with years of past experience in product development and improvement processes such as Kaizen, 6-sigma and TQM. Speaking today, Andy explains why, in his opinion, Rosemullion spirits have been so successful - “utilizing our experience, we make classic spirits, not sugar flavoured, additive laden spirits, so our Gins purely taste of gin, not ‘fruit shoots’. Similarly, we want our rums to taste of rum and not be hidden by sugars and vanilla etc. To achieve good gin, rum and whisky the foundation is in the fermentation, which provides a firm footing for creating great spirits. We also draw upon our unique surroundings to underscore our provenance – Helford rainwater is used in the fermentation and distillation process, complemented by local Cornish ingredients plus seasonal fruit from our own orchard and vines.

rosemulliondistillery.com

Rosemullion Founders, Liz and Andy Bradbury

We only produce small batches to ensure optimum quality control. We aim always to be the protectors and perfecters of the distillery craft, constantly looking to improve even category winners”.

In addition to the previous factors, Rosemullion also strives to maintain ethical, responsible and sustainable practices. Rosemullion are registered with Cornwall Council’s ‘Made in Cornwall’ scheme –hence they are audited in terms of what they say they do, covering the fermentation, distilling and aging processes carried out on their site. In terms of minimizing their environmental impact they have a rainwater catchment system and minimize their water consumption by recycling their cooling water for use in the fermenters. They also minimize the use of plastic from suppliers and all their own plastic and cardboard waste is sent to recyclers. Finally they pay more for their distribution boxes so they can reuse them.

Each piece was designed to complement the church’s architecture and enhance its intimate, relaxing atmosphere.

For the NOBU Hotel Shoreditch, Hospitality Projects crafted over 80 bespoke pieces for the dining area, hotel lobby and bar. The designs incorporated natural timbers and neutral tones blending industrial chic and Japanese simplicity. The warm lighting in the space creates a welcoming, and relaxing atmosphere. Soft patterned fabrics with red silk accents and dark wood trims add elegance and sophistication.

The latest showcase from Hospitality Projects’ is the soon to be unveiled Mandarin Oriental on Hanover Square in London. Manufacturing over 3500 items for the hotel, spa and residential spaces, including sofas, armchairs, coffee tables, dining tables, and chairs.

THE DILLY LAUNCHES NEW PARISIAN AFTERNOON TEA EXPERIENCE TO CELEBRATE THE 2024 OLYMPICS

To celebrate the 2024 Olympics being hosted in Paris, Piccadilly’s iconic hotel, The Dilly, is launching a brand-new Parisian themed afternoon tea to give visitors a taste of Paris, right in the heart of London. Available from 13th May, the new Parisian afternoon tea will be served at the hotel’s elegant Terrace at The Dilly, replacing its classic London-themed afternoon tea for a limited time only.

The new afternoon tea lineup features a selection of delicious sandwiches with nods to various French flavours, including the Jambon-beurre; a French baguette with sliced ham and cheese, the Crêpe; containing roasted vegetables and soft cheese, Tartines; a sandwich with smoked salmon, capers and cream cheese, and Sandwich Lyonnaise, which is made up of egg mayonnaise and mustard cress served on focaccia.

Diners can relish in a selection of beautifully hand-crafted sweet treats which resemble Olympic symbols and key French landmarks, including The Medal; a yellow macaron with vibrant strawberry and ginger flavourings and The Olympia Column; a Cassis cremeux in the shape of a Greek column. Additional treats include the Eiffel Tower; a biscuit layered with chocolate mousse and mandarin gel, with the famous tower made out of chocolate sat on top, and the Mona Lisa; a decadent pistachio and honey cake featuring the iconic painting. Freshly baked scones with raisins will also grace the Parisian afternoon tea menu.

Guests can also enjoy a steaming cup of tea from the Tea Makers of London alongside their afternoon tea, or even a crisp glass of Pommery Brut Royal Brut NV or Pommery Brut Rosé Royal champagne.

The new Parisian afternoon tea at The Dilly, which is £49 per person, will be available until 30th September and will be served daily from 12:30 – 4pm. Vegetarian and vegan options will also be available, as well as an afternoon tea menu suitable for children for £39.

To celebrate the Parisian afternoon tea launch, The Dilly is partnering with its sister hotel, Leonardo Boutique Hotel Paris Opera, to give one lucky person the chance to win a trip to Paris for two, with a two-night stay at the hotel and return travel from London included. Those who want to be in with a chance of winning this fantastic prize simply need to book the Parisian afternoon tea experience through www.thedillylondon.com, and a lucky winner will be chosen after the limited edition afternoon tea ends on 30th September.
