THE UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE IN SINGAPORE
Robert J Cochrane CPA Pro Vice-Chancellor, University of Newcastle – Singapore The University of Newcastle in Singapore has developed to be one of the largest providers of international undergraduate and postgraduate programs in this important city state. Indeed, University operations in Singapore provide a greater range of programs than any other foreign university in Singapore, and we have one of the largest cohorts of staff and students. We currently teach over 2300 students, including over 1,000 full-time international students. The University of Newcastle offers the following degree programs in Singapore in partnership with PSB Academy: Bachelor of Information Technology; Bachelor of Business; Bachelor of Commerce; Bachelor of Communication; Bachelor of Engineering across several specializations; Bachelor of Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety; and Master of Business Administration. An honours stream in Bachelor of Communications was introduced this year. In 2011 we will offer the MBA through the Singapore Accounting Academy – the Private Education and Training arm of the Institute of CPA’s Singapore, as well as other postgraduate programs with new internationally focused partners Singapore is a dynamic location for such a trans-national education venture as ours because it is safe, convenient, and provides a professional and dynamic environment for students. Quality teaching is facilitated by our highly qualified Singaporean and Australian academics. Our success is testimony to the hard work of our 25 local full time academic and administrative staff working in partnership with the talented staff of PSB Academy and visiting staff from Newcastle, Australia. Our academic staff are also strong performers in research, thus raising our profile in Singapore. In 2011, we look forward to continued strong growth and positive engagement with the region through our partnerships in Singapore and the region.
