Based on the Viking burial grounds found in the area, the island was a popular place to stop by for Vikings on their way through Russia to Constantinople and all the way to China.

Vimpa Islands has focused on environmental friendliness. The buildings are old log houses decorated with recycled, second-hand furniture and tableware.

They produce their own electricity through solar power. They get their ingredients for food from local producers, fish for their fish, grow their own greens and get their eggs from their henhouse.

Year-round activities: The island features a sauna boat, bathing tub and cottages and motor boats for rent. In between meetings, visitors can enjoy ancient Viking trails or fishing trips in Viking waters.
