Alumni Annual Report
2012-2013
Welcome U of G
alumni It is our pleasure to bring you the first U of G Alumni Annual Report. This year, Alumni Affairs and Development, along with the University of Guelph Alumni Association, is launching an Annual Report – a place where we can report on our accomplishments and activities over the past year. The University of Guelph is dedicated to fostering an ongoing relationship with its alumni. Our alumni now total more than 100,000 and live in 147 countries around the world. U of G alumni are scholars, doctors, lawyers, CEOs, Olympic athletes, actors, chefs, hoteliers, entrepreneurs… the list of our accomplished alumni goes on and on. Over the past year we have increased our efforts to engage with alumni, through events, communications, volunteer opportunities and social media. Behind the scenes, a dedicated group of UGAA volunteer board members work on alumni services and benefits, alumni recognition and promotion, and networking opportunities. The fiscal year 2012-2013 has been a busy and productive one. Our new Annual Report is a wonderful way to take a snap-shot of where we have been, as we look toward a very bright future ahead. Volunteers U of G Alumni volunteers make a difference. Whether you volunteer on a board, or a committee, or give advice to graduating students at a career night, there are many ways to get involved as a volunteer. U of G grads give back in their own communities by attending a Countdown to Guelph event where incoming students and families learn about the U of G experience, and as Regional Ambassadors, by sharing Gryphon pride and connecting alumni in your area to U of G programs and events.
After graduation, volunteering with Alumni Affairs seemed like a natural step and a perfect way to give back to my school. I was eager to stay connected with the University of Guelph and meet other students and alumni. I have enjoyed the chance to help out with Countdown to Guelph and convocation, and look forward to more opportunities to come! Bethany Philpott, BA ’12

2014 is a Year to Celebrate! In 2014, the University of Guelph will celebrate its 50th anniversary. Alumni are invited to join the celebrations.
Alumni Weekend and the Conversat Ball On June 21, 2014, all U of G alumni are invited to celebrate Alumni Weekend and the University’s 50th anniversary. After an almost 40-year hiatius, we are bringing back the Conversat – a uniquely U of G event. It will be a gala evening featuring Guelph’s signature approach to spectacular food and extraordinary entertainment. Conversat 2014 will feature an elegant three-course dinner under a marquee on Johnston Green, six uniquely themed party venues across campus, and a midnight champagne buffet with fireworks. Visit www.alumni.uoguelph.ca/conversat for tickets and information.
A special U of G Multigenerational Alumni Picnic is planned for Sunday, June 22, 2014, as part of Alumni Weekend. Everyone is invited to take part in the picnic, but we will be celebrating our special alumni families who have U of G alumni spanning three generations or more. Please let us know if you are one of these families. Send us a note to alumni@uoguelph.ca and we will follow up with an invitation to the Multigenerational Picnic.
Visit www.uoguelph.ca/50 for details on all of U of G’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
Registration for Alumni Weekend events will open in January 2014.
