Edited by

Albrecht Schnabel & Anara Tabyshalieva

Escaping Victimhood: Children, Youth and Post-Conflict Peacebuilding This publication draws on experiences from post-conflict environments in different parts of the world. The authors examine the proactive roles of girls and boys in promoting security for themselves and their families. The publication focuses on children's suffering and their specific vulnerabilities during and after a war. It also looks into the international legal frameworks created to protect and empower children and youth in post-conflict environments, and gives examples of initiatives to help young people escape victimhood and voicelessness. As the young post-war generation will become the next leaders, parents and teachers, ensuring children and youth’s active role in post-conflict peacebuilding today could be among the most effective means of building sustainable peace tomorrow. After Oppression: Transitional Justice in Latin America and Eastern Europe AFTER OPPRESSION Transitional Justice in Latin America and Eastern Europe EDITED BY

Vesselin Popovski & Mónica Serrano

This book delves into the effectiveness of various accountability mechanisms. Drawing comparisons from case studies in Latin America and Eastern Europe, it demonstrates that while there are many different paths to truth and justice, all depend on continued efforts in order to reach them. In many cases, these efforts also create favourable conditions for the development of a resilient human rights culture. The experiences across regions show that democratic consolidation and accountability for past human rights violations are closely related, if independent, processes. This accessible book makes an important contribution towards better understanding those processes and the relationship between them. Forum on Crime and Society, Special Issue: The State of the World’s Response to the Crime of Human Trafficking The global response to trafficking in persons is the main topic of this issue of Forum on Crime and Society. Following the ratification of the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, in 2003, many countries have introduced new or improved existing legislative provisions to tackle this crime more effectively. Trafficking in persons is now a specific offence in many countries, at least for its most common purposes, namely sexual exploitation and forced labour. The present article provides a broad overview of how countries worldwide have so far responded to trafficking in persons.
