Technical Background Report for the Global Mercury Assessment 2013 United Nations
This report provides best available data on mercury atmospheric emissions and trends including where possible an analysis by country, region and sector, including a consideration of factors driving such trends and applicable regulatory mechanisms. Included are current results from modelling on a global scale and from other information sources on the contribution of regional emissions to deposition which may result in adverse effects and the potential benefits from reducing such emissions, taking into account the efforts of the Fate and Transport partnership established under the United Nations Environment Programme mercury programme. The main focus of this report is on mercury (Hg) emissions to the air and pathways and fate of atmospheric Hg. It includes information on Hg releases to water and pathways and fate in aquatic environments. ISBN 978-82-7-971080-6

City-level Decoupling: Urban Resource Flows and the Governance of Infrastructure Transitions United Nations Environment Programme
The core argument of the Decoupling Report is that a transition to a green economy depends on finding ways to sustain economic growth rates without escalating rates of resource use. To achieve this decoupling, appropriate sustainability-oriented innovation will need to be initiated, promoted and applied on a large scale. Because the majority of the world’s population now live in cities where most resource consumption takes place, the pressures and potentials to find ways to reconcile economic growth, well-being and the sustainable use of natural resources will be greatest in cities. Indeed, many significant sustainability-oriented innovations are already being applied at scale in cities throughout the world. Spurred on by a wide range of socioeconomic and ecological threats, cities provide fertile ground for innovation and creativity. Publication Date: November 2014 ISBN: 9789280732986

Africa Environment Outlook 3: Our Environment, Our Health
United Nations Environment Programme Environment risks are blamed for about 28 percent of Africa’s disease burden, including diarrhoea, respiratory infections and malaria, which account for 60 percent of known environmental health impacts in the region. This publication analyses the importance of, and interlinkages between, health and environment and the opportunities and synergies that might be derived from intensified collaboration between the two sectors. It undertakes an integrated analysis of the state and trends covering the themes of air quality, biodiversity, chemicals and waste, climate change, marine resources, freshwater and sanitation. It illustrates how socio-economic driving forces can generate environmental pressures, leading to altered ecosystem states, personal exposure to risks and adverse health effects.
