Human rights work requires preparation, technical skills and substantive knowledge in order to be effectively conducted. This publication aims to assist United Nations human rights officers and other human rights monitors—including from governments, national human rights institutions and non-governmental organizations—to engage in monitoring the rights of persons with disabilities, in line with the Convention. It provides an explanation of the paradigm shift that the Convention enshrines and of the scope, standards and principles recognized by it. Furthermore, it proposes a methodology for monitoring the rights of persons with disabilities, and provides useful advice on issues to consider when working with persons with disabilities.

Family and Parenting Support Policy and Provision in a Global Context Innocenti Insight

Family and parenting support is increasingly recognized as an important part of national social policies and social investment packages aimed at reducing poverty, decreasing inequality, and promoting positive parental and child well-being. Over the past 15 to 20 years different models of family-related services have evolved in different parts of the world. Much less documented is what drives the development of national policies and programmes in low- and middle-income countries and how the provision of family and parenting support impacts on child and adolescent well-being in these contexts. This publication aims to build the evidence base on what kind of family and parenting support works, under what conditions, and for whom. Included are case studies included from Belarus, Chile, China, Croatia, England, Jamaica, The Philippines, South Africa, and Sweden. Publication Date: April 2015 ISBN: 9788865220290

Transitional Justice and Economic, Social and Cultural Rights United Nations

TRANSITIONAL JUSTICE AND

The failure to fulfil economic, social and cultural rights and the outright violation of these rights are often at the root of conflict. Actions and omissions by States and non-State actors during conflict can also amount to violations of economic, social and cultural rights, and particularly affect the most vulnerable. Yet, there has been no widespread move in transitional justice processes to examine the root causes of the conflict or to look into violations of economic, social and cultural rights. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has explored ways in which transitional justice processes have or could address violations of economic, social and cultural rights. This publication presents the outcome of that work.
