Law and Justice The School of Law, Social Sciences and Communications (LSSC) offers a wide range of activities and taster sessions throughout the year. Taster days are a great opportunity for students to see our dedicated facilities, meet academic staff and students, find out about the courses offered and get an overview of life as a law student. In 2010 a new purpose built court room was completed. Activity name HSLAWJ01

Courses and careers in Law

For sixth form students we can offer a master class on a specific area of law, offer information on careers in law, and interactive exercises which can develop skills such as teamwork, leadership and negotiation.

Activity description This session will communicate key information on careers in the law, including the career routes to follow towards qualification as a solicitor or a barrister. In addition, the session will outline law courses offered by the University and extra curricular activities available to students. Activity name HSLAWJ02

Activity description In this session, students will be able to attend a taster lecture on a subject linked to their current studies. Master class subjects can include a wide range of important areas in civil or criminal law.

Activity description Interactive legal skills sessions are available, aimed at identifying and developing key skills required for a career in law. One popular session is a negotiation exercise, which builds on skills of teamwork and leadership, towards achieving a negotiated goal or compromise.

Mock court trial

Activity description The University can also offer a student mock trial which sixth form students can observe. This identifies court etiquette, develops subject knowledge, and gives students a practical experience of a career in law.
