Institute for Business Ethics (IWE-HSG): On the occasion of the retirement of the Founding Director of the IWE, Prof. Peter Ulrich, in summer 2009 and to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Institute, Dr. Breuer, Dr. Waxenberger and Prof. Mastronardi issued the celebratory anthology Markt, Mensch und Freiheit. A book entitled System Error. Warum der freie Markt zur Unfreiheit führt by Ulrich Thielemann, which has meanwhile been accepted for the series of Germany’s Federal Office of Political Education, was aimed at a broader public. Institute of Business Education and Educational Management (IWP-HSG): In early August 2009, Prof. Dr. Christoph Metzger passed on the Institute Director’s mantle to Prof. Dr. Sabine Seufert. Research and development work was continued at an intensive pace, among other things with projects on vocational training, social and learning compe tencies, university development, didactics and education innovation and management. Swiss Research Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (KMU-HSG): The Institute deals with small and mediumsized enterprises (SMEs), Entrepreneurship and Family Business. The Intensive Study Programme for SMEs and the St. Gallen Management Seminar for SMEs are particularly wellknown in Switzerland’s SME landscape. The KMUHSG’s practical activities concentrate on Switzerland and the German speaking neighbouring countries. The Institute’s research has an international orientation and is interlinked accordingly.
