Want to train to be a Probation Officer? The Level 5 required academic knowledge modules (four stand alone modules) In order to apply for the PQiP at Level 6 each applicant must have a Level 5 or above HEI Award and demonstrate knowledge in the following required academic knowledge areas. This can either be achieved by the recognition of previous academic study or by studying the following standalone knowledge modules at the University of Portsmouth. • Criminal Justice System • Crime and Criminal Behaviour • Punishment and Penal Policy • Rehabilitation of Offenders

Level 6 Professional Qualification in Probation (PQiP) The Level 6 Professional Qualification in Probation (PQiP) leads to a BA (Hons) Community Justice at the University of Portsmouth and qualified probation officer status. The Level 6 Professional Qualification in Probation (PQiP) academic programme of learning will be completed over a nine-month period. However, activities will take place during the entire 15-month integrated probation officer education and training programme. The modules on offer are:

The Level 5 Knowledge Modules are available at the beginning of every calendar month and can be studied at your own pace and intensity. Learners are able to submit their assignment at the end of each calendar month. The knowledge modules can be purchased by individuals. See details below.

• Probation Practice – recognition of achieving a Level 5 Vocational Qualification • Core Processes of Change • Core Issues in Risk Assessment • Public Protection • Work Based Learning Project - an opportunity to research and write about an area of community justice practice of your choice

Gateway Assessment Service The Gateway Assessment Service (GAS) validates your previous academic study of the required knowledge modules. In order to apply for the Level 6 PQiP each applicant must have their previous Level 5 (or higher) higher education award recognised against the Community Justice Learning knowledge modules.
