BRAGGING POINTS What do you love most about UK’s location? RB: Lexington is a short drive from almost every industry epicenter or hub. As a town, Lexington is growing in value and becoming a great American city with just about every support system and interest group you could ask for. TZ: Lexington is in the middle of everything east of the Mississippi River. Almost any location is within a day’s drive. Also, since UK is in the middle of the state, there are plenty of unique Kentucky attractions for students to experience that are not far away. DB: I love that UK is surrounded by downtown Lexington and beautiful horse fields. It’s a humble environment full of tradition and Wildcat pride.
How does life at UK overlap with the Lexington community? RB: UK in itself is its own community, and you have everything you need and more on campus. But Lexington complements UK so well. Everyone in Lexington is so willing to help UK students. TZ: I believe UK’s tradition is growing students and maintaining their connection to the University and Lexington in a deep way. I’m a witness to the impact that UK has on its alumni. Graduates are always looking for reasons to come back to Lexington. DB: In a nursing program, I cared for an elderly patient who had lived in Lexington her whole life. She told me, ”Lexington is a city that you become a part of. And it becomes a special part of you that will always be close to your heart.” She was absolutely right.
What excites you about Lexington? RB: This is a super exciting time to be in Lexington. There are so many hidden gems popping up around town, and Lexington is a small enough town where you see familiar faces but it’s big enough to where you’re able to make a big scale difference and meet someone new every day.
With nationally-recognized merits and a community that embraces students and alums, it’s no wonder why UK students love Lexington—and why many alumni choose to stick around after graduation.
