Philosophical, Professional, Ethical, and Legal Aspects in Counseling 2 semester hours Michelle Stratman, Ed.D., PCC Friday, 5:00 p.m.– 10:00 p.m. and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. June 1 – 2 and June 8 – 9 This course focuses on the ways in which professional counselors establish and develop a professional identity rooted in the founding principles of counseling with branches that include personal morals and values, professional codes of ethics, state and federal statutes, and institutional procedures and policies that govern environments in which counselors are employed.

Advanced Counseling Skills 1 semester hour Scott Hall, Ph.D., LPCC Friday, 5:00 p.m. –10:00 p.m. and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. –5:00 p.m. 5/18– 19 This course will focus on advanced skills in individual counseling. Students will learn and practice advanced influencing and intervention skills in counseling, as well as techniques for handling challenging client experiences. In addition, students will explore effective and ethical use of self-disclosure. The class will utilize experiential exercises, video demonstrations, and class discussion.

SPIRITUALITY IN COUNSELING 1 semester hour Scott Hall, Ph.D., LPCC Friday, 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 7/13 – 14 This seminar provides students the opportunity to explore their own spiritual development and how to assist clients with this process. The course offers students a variety of methods for incorporating the spiritual in their clinical work, e.g., how to construct a spiritual genogram, a clinical framework which includes the spiritual dimension, questions designed to explore the spiritual and exercises that may help people understand their own spiritual development.
