Doctoral Programme in Arts and Humanities Programme description The Doctoral Programme in Arts and Humanities at the University of Cadiz aims to train PhD students in the various fields of historical, philological, philosophical, cultural and gender studies, by fostering through interdisciplinary research further insight into human development from its roots in the old days to current globalisation. Given its seven specific strategic research areas with a solid foundation in the generic field of Arts and Humanities at the University of Cadiz, the Programme distinguishes itself from similar academic offers and provides the humanities master’s degrees with the scope necessary on third cycle programmes. Qualifications required Graduate students and master’s graduates, holders of a Bachelor’s degree who have a Master of Advanced Studies and doctors in any discipline of Arts and the Humanities from the Spanish education system or overseas. Given its interdisciplinary nature, graduate students from other disciplines can also enter the programme. Entry is subject to the Academic Advisory Committee which may require students to attain competence in specific training areas relevant to the Programme.

Doctoral Programme in Biomolecular Sciences Programme description This UCA doctoral programme offers technical-scientific training in characterization, design, synthesis and application of novel bioactive substances as potential drugs and agrochemicals. Highly-qualified professionals whose training guarantee interdisciplinary working skills that are needed in the design and development of biomolecules and novel bioactive molecules are in great demand in the chemical industry in general and especially in the pharmaceutical and agrochemical areas. In view of this scenario, the Programme provides students with advanced interdisciplinary training which focuses on research into bioactive molecules and on developing the multiple professional profiles that are useful in the fields of chemistry, biology and medicine. Qualifications required Master’s degree in Science or Health Sciences. All applications will be examined by the academic committee and admissions will be at its discretion.

Doctoral Programme in the Health Sciences Programme description The main goal of the University of Cadiz Doctoral Programme in the Health Sciences is to enable graduates in this branch of knowledge to acquire the multidisciplinary skills necessary to design, manage and implement research projects, in order to endow society and the healthcare system with physicians who possess a solid education in the Health Sciences. Doctoral Programme in Social Sciences and Law Programme description The UCA Doctoral Programme in Social Sciences and Law aims to help graduate students from law, economy and social sciences to complete their postgraduate education by offering training in the field of research. Boasting eight research areas, the Programme brought together the effort, specialties and approaches of the University’s various disciplines, research teams and researchers working in the scientific areas of Law, Economy and Business (Economy, Business Management, Financial Economy and Accounting) and Social Sciences. Doctoral Programme in Manufacturing, Materials and Environmental Engineering Programme description The Doctoral Programme in Manufacturing, Materials and Environmental Engineering aims at training PhD students for the various Engineering fields, which are characterized by their multi and interdisciplinary nature. The Programme has been specially designed for PhD students who already hold a master of research degree/professional master’s degree in Engineering or an undergraduate degree, which is discontinued by now (Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Naval Engineering, Aeronautics Engineering, etc.). The Programme comprises seven research areas that boast a long tradition and a solid foundation at the University of Cadiz, a wealth of experience in doctoral theses in the various engineering fields and a remarkably international and local reach. Doctoral Programme in Linguistics Programme description The University of Cadiz Doctoral Programme in Linguistics is the only one of its kind in the Region of Andalusia, and offers an advanced, interdisciplinary education aimed at theoretical and applied research, with multiple employment opportunities in the fields of human relations, new technologies, communication pathologies and disorders and the social, cultural and discursive dimensions of language. Associated with the new Institute of Research in Applied Linguistics at the University of Cadiz and with a high international profile, this programme is taught within the framework of the National Linguistics Network coordinated by this University. Doctoral Programme in Nanoscience and Materials Technology Programme description The aim of the UCA doctoral Programme is that PhD students produce an original research work as well as acquire sound knowledge of the principal spheres of action, the most relevant techniques and the current issues with the greatest impact on society related to nanoscience and materials technology. Training is complemented with activities for fostering transversal competences acquisition: scientific information and communication management, development of organizational, management and employability skills. The Programme allows students to carry out research and interdisciplinary work in any of the three research areas offered, as well as research works co-directed in joint collaboration with other universities.The teaching staff and resources are made available by the Electron Microscopy and Materials Institute of the University of Cadiz. For its successful development, the Programme relies on the scientific equipment available at the UCA’s Central Service of Science and Technology. Qualifications required Candidates of any nationality who hold a master’s degree in Sciences or Engineering, with a keen interest in research into materials structure at micro- and nanoscale, physical and chemical properties of materials, as well as their technological applications. The admission requirements include the candidate’s prior education, professional and research activities relevant to the Programme and personal motivation. Likewise, creativity, willingness to innovate and transfer knowledge to society and commitment to sustainability will be an asset.

Doctoral Programme in Communication Programme description The University of Cadiz offers a Doctoral Programme in Communication in conjunction with other Andalusian universities (Malaga, Seville, Huelva and the International University of Andalusia), as well as with a large number of European, Latin American and other international universities, institutions, organisations and companies. The programme guarantees a advanced, high-quality education that will fully equip students for work in professional occupations and research, and provides guidance on different professional activities: teaching and research in communication, management of corporate communications, strategic planning, advertising copy and creativity, management of events and cultural programmes, protocol and public relations management. Doctoral Programme in Marine Management and Conservation Programme description The Doctoral Programme in Marine Management and Conservation provides students with a basic and applied training in the principles and tools necessary to study biodiversity as a key element in the management and conservation of the marine and coastal environment. Among its objectives is the delivery of a specialist education equipping students with the skills to determine the effects of pollution on the dynamics, structure and stability of aquatic ecosystems, and the tools to design effective, comprehensive marine management, taking socioeconomic factors (maritime traffic or port activity) into account as well as the need for in-depth study of maritime law. Qualifications required Graduates holding a first degree or diploma in the fields of Science, Engineering, Technology or Law, and an officially recognised master’s degree in the same field, together accounting for a minimum of 300 credits. Of these, at least 60 credits should correspond to the master’s degree, and the master’s degree programme should have included specific research training.

Doctoral Programme in Maritime History and Archaeology Programme description The PhD programme in Maritime History and Archaeology aims at offering PhD students specialized training in the aspects relating to the diachronic interaction between human society and the sea through history, helping students to develop the necessary skills to be able to think critically and reflect upon the underwater heritage. Qualifications required Students who hold a bachelor’s degree or a three-year university degree in Humanities (History, Humanities, Geography, Languages, Anthropology, Fine Arts, Documentation Science or a related discipline) or in Science (Geology, Biology, Chemistry, Marine and Environmental Studies, Chemical Engineering, etc.) and at least one official Master’s degree in a related discipline, and have gained a minimum of 300 credits of which 60 have been awarded on a master’s degree related to the PhD programme.

Doctoral Programme in Marine Resources Programme description The main goal of the Doctoral Programme in Marine Resources is to provide a basic and applied specialist training in fundamental aspects of the biology of marine species and the judicious and sustainable use of marine resources. The programme comprises two main areas: Aquaculture and Fisheries (living marine resources), each of which boasts an international team of teaching staff and researchers with extensive experience at a high professional level. Qualifications required Graduates holding a first degree or diploma in the fields of Science, Engineering or Technology and an officially recognised master’s degree in the same field, together accounting for a minimum of 300 credits. Erasmus Mundus Doctoral Programme in Marine and Coastal Management Programme description The primary aim of the MACOMA programme is to integrate the various of coastal and marine disciplines within a single higher education programme combining both teaching and research. It is offered through a consortium of universities consisting of the Universities of Cadiz (coordinator), the Algarve and Aveiro (Portugal), Bologna (Italy) and the Russian State Hydrometeorological University (Russia). The primary goal is to provide doctoral students with an education and capacity for management that will endow them with a multidisciplinary command of marine issues. One requirement of the programme is that at least 30% of students’ research must be conducted abroad. Qualifications required Graduates holding a first degree awarded by any university in Europe or elsewhere and a master’s degree in the field of marine, water and coastal management that meets the general requirements for admission onto a doctoral programme. Doctoral Programme in Agrifood Resources Programme description The Doctoral Programme in Agrifood Resources is the result of UCA’s proven research expertise in the agrifood field and its active role in the Agrifood Campus of International Excellence CeiA3. The six research areas that comprise the Programme are characterized by their highly-multidisciplinary scope. Researchers from various fields of science, such as biochemistry, microbiology, chemical engineering, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, food science and technology and environmental technologies, are committed to the Programme’s development. Enrolled students will conduct research work in such disciplines as biotechnology, oenology, biotechnology engineering, environmental engineering and technological processes and bio refinery plants design in order to provide the agrifood industry with innovative solutions. Qualifications required The doctoral Programme is designed to train students to produce a doctoral thesis.To entry the Programme, candidates must hold an official master’s degree whose final project is a research work on any agrifood theme. The applications of candidates from other fields will be examined by the academic advisory committee and admission will be subject to the committee’s approval.
