WOJTEK: THE HAPPY WARRIOR The Quarter Too Ensemble (England)
6-30 Aug (not 18), 12.15pm previews 6 & 7 Aug
B
ased on the true story of the Syrian bear enlisted into the Polish army during WWII, the show is presented by a large storytelling ensemble with live integrated music. Before he ends his days in Edinburgh Zoo, watch Wojtek wrestle, ride in army trucks, set sail for war and aid the fight in the largest land battle in the war, as the Company brings a ragtag selection of army issue objects to life, conjuring an imagining of events that highlight the nature of friendship and empathy against the chaos of war. The true yet unbelievable story tracks the journey of a unit of the Polish Army Corps
who had a very unusual member in their ranks: Private Wojtek (‘he who smiles at war’ or ‘Happy Warrior’ in Polish), an orphaned cub who was adopted by the soldiers in Persia (now Palestine). Wojtek in his later life at the Zoo was a refugee who would never return to his homeland and thus became a symbol to all those who experienced wartime displacement. He is also a reminder that love and friendship are looked for even in the throws of war. Venue:

his is the story of three vagabonds in search of happiness and how a dandelion transforms the meaning of their lives. Cazzo, Lazzo and Pozzo spend their days fixing the old lighthouse, believing that only then will the pier be a home to them. Before the goal is accomplished they journey towards bravery, fraternity and tenderness. The show pokes around the everyday gesture as a starting point for scenic exploration. It searches in clown logic for a fresh dancing language that fuses dance, digital animation and children’s poetry.
Emiliano Cárdenas is a clown since the day he was born and so far, no scientist has been able to explain how he came to this world with a little red nose and a manual for building ladders. He discovered in the art of clowning the best way to get in touch with the most demanding audience in the world: kids.

he fate of women in opera is one of great suffering, in love or illness, which is often fatal.
This outstanding and innovative performance, created from an original idea by soprano and actress Miren de Miguel, is based on her own conflict as a woman and artist. Focused on three operas, based on the works of Shakespeare, Miren explores the lyrical universe of Verdi, performing seven well-loved arias alongside classical texts and movement.

The Universe is a divine miracle Galileo, not a clockwork toy! ‘Proof’ denies faith, and without faith we are nothing.
“The opera permits men to give voice to misogyny.” But Miren imagines that Desdemona and Violetta are in control of their own destiny. Miren de Miguel is a Basque Soprano, Actress and Author. After more than 15 years singing opera in Italy, she returned to Spain to create her own productions, based on feminist principles and a desire for social justice. Her shows transmit her ideas and obsessions as well as her passion for music and poetry in particular. For Tutte Contro Verdi she is joined by collaborators Julio d’Escriván, a Venezuelan composer working in the UK and by Basque saxophonist Iñigo Ibaibarriaga.

Made in small batches, Pinkster is an award-winning, premium gin. We hand-steep fresh, locally grown raspberries in our triple-distilled spirit at our Cambridge HQ.
Piotrowski studied at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts and his work has been presented in group exhibitions in Poland, Italy, France and Holland. His work is sold internationally. This is his first solo exhibition outside Warsaw.
We’re deliciously dry, with a hint of fruit and an exceptionally smooth finish. For a refreshingly different G&T, mix with a decent tonic and add a sprig of fresh mint.
An exhibition catalogue is available as a 2016 calendar.
We appear to be doing something right, as we were recently voted the UK’s third favourite gin.

omentum Venues is located at St Stephen’s Centre in Edinburgh’s New Town at the bottom of Saint Vincent Street. It was built in 1828 to a design by architect William Henry Playfair. Momentum Venues offers three performance spaces of different scales, geared to accommodating the highest calibre of fringe production on offer in 2015. The St Stephen’s Centre, formerly operated by Northern Stage, The Traverse and The Arches, is now under new management. Momentum Venues has curated a season of diverse, daring and dynamic shows to present across three spaces. Artistic Director David Hutchinson and Commercial Director Phillip Rowntree have produced over 20 shows at the Edinburgh Fringe to date and from this experience understand the importance of a strong venue/ company relationship. Momentum Venues will pioneer this vision and support companies throughout their production period.

ust So Stories is a fun, interactive storytelling of Rudyard Kipling’s classic tales. Audiences are invited to choose which stories they see unfold and together help bring the adventures to life. Just as The Jungle Book’s Mowgli learned how the Tiger got his stripes, you too can enter the world of Kipling’s fantastical fables. Join up to discover how the Camel got his hump, the Rhino got its skin, and the alphabet was made: all with your help ... and a little bit of magic!
All grown-ups were once children but only a few of them remember it.
“KIPLING WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST WORDSMITHS OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND THESE FABLES ARE TOLD IN A SIMPLE AND IRRESISTIBLE MANNER. THEY’RE TIMELESS”
hy do adults lose the power to imagine? A tender tale of imagination, friendship and loss, as a little prince who has travelled the universe just wants to return to his asteroid, and the rose that he loves. xactly 100 years apart, two women’s lives are defined by conflict. A war-hardened, weary and cynical 21st century female war correspondent is being held in a Middle Eastern city. As she awaits her fate, she finds surprising parallels and strength recounting the story of Edith Cavell, a WW1 nurse who was shot as a spy by German forces on 12 October 1915.. Martyrs or spies, traitors or freedom fighters: history is littered with the bodies of women used as propaganda. Proteus create exciting, contemporary theatre that surprises and ignites audiences nationally and internationally.
