Boiling point elevation is a phenomenon that the SAN MARINO CLUB boiling point of aYACHT liquid/solvent containing solutes is higher than a pure liquid/solvent
01
DĂœHRING'S RULE Duhring measured the boiling point of solutions with different NaCl concentrations at different pressures. The experiment demonstrated the rise in boiling point was not dependent on temperature or pressure but only on solute concentration. A linear relationship exists between the temperatures at which two solutions exert the same vapour pressure.
02
DĂœHRING'S PLOT It is a graphical illustration typically with the pure liquid's boiling point along the x-axis and the boiling point of liquid with soluble solutes along the y-axis.
03
RATE OF HEAT TRANSFER The rate of heat transfer between two sites is affected by the temperature difference between them. When the temperature difference decreases, the rate of heat transfer decreases.
04
MULTIPLE EFFECT EVAPORATORS Multiple effect evaporators concentrate liquid, thus increase the boiling point of the liquid. This narrows the temperature difference between steam and concentrated liquid. Subsequently, the rate of heat transfer between the steam and liquid is reduced. To maintain the rate of heat transfer by maintaining the temperature difference, the pressure of the latter unit of evaporator needs to be reduced.
