Education

Did you know that 90% of a child’s brain growth occurs before their third birthday? For this reason, and many more, United Way of Rhode Island works to ensure that all children, regardless of their family’s economic status, have access to essential early childhood education and out-of-school learning programs that improve academic performance.

Income

According to a recent study, one in four American working families earns wages that make it difficult to survive financially and meet their basic needs. Here in Rhode Island, thousands of people work hard each and every day to support their families. But, despite their determination and effort, many are in low-wage jobs that offer few opportunities for advancement.

Housing

At United Way of Rhode Island, we know that a safe and affordable home is the foundation for long-term stability. Sadly, this basic need remains out of reach for too many families as housing expenses far outpace their income. As a result, 26% of Rhode Island’s working households spend more than half of their income on housing.

Affordable Housing In 2012, United Way led the effort $ million to pass a $25 million housing BOND PASSED bond for the creation of long-term, affordable housing which will also help provide a much-needed boost to Rhode Island’s economy.
