UNITED WAY OF ACADIANA FIGHTS FOR THE HEALTH, EDUCATION AND FINANCIAL STABILITY OF EVERY PERSON IN EVERY COMMUNITY. Together, we tackle tough problems that you care about most in Acadia, Lafayette, St. Martin and Vermilion parishes — helping our youth graduate on time, our families make ends meet, and our neighbors recover after disaster. UWA is uniquely positioned to change lives, solve intractable problems and make society work better. We know you are serious about your philanthropy. We are honored to work with you by matching your aspirations for transformational change to strategies that produce real results. Thank you for being our allies in the fight for a stronger, healthier Acadiana. Together, we fight. Together, we win!

“The greatness of America lies not in being more enlightened than any other nation, but rather in her ability to repair her faults.” — Alexis-Charles-Henri Clérel de Tocqueville

“To me, Living United means being there for your neighbors and doing what you can to make your community a better place. My home was heavily damaged during the flooding [of 2016], and the only way I was able to put my life back together was through my friends and neighbors rallying around me. United Way provides that kind of support every day by bringing the help and resources people need to put their own lives back together. There are so many worthwhile programs, and every time I see the impact they have, I go back to the experiences I’ve had. We all need a helping hand every now and then.” — Scott Domingue UWA Chairman of the Board

“United Way of Acadiana brings to the table the key ingredients of smart philanthropy. This includes an intellectual and collaborative process to identifying the key impact opportunities in a community or region. This is followed by a similar process to identify the resources, both human and financial, to launch initiatives that create systemic change and measurable results.” — Rob Eddy UWA Past Chairman of the Board

Membership in the United Way is granted to individuals who contribute $10,000 or more annually. United Way Worldwide created the society to honor voluntary community service and the philanthropic investments of generous individuals and family foundations to local United Ways, and to recognize the value of such service to our nation. The name, Alexis de Tocqueville Society, was chosen for de Tocqueville’s admiration for the spirit of voluntary effort for the common good, a spirit that he had observed in America and about which he wrote enthusiastically.

Businesses who light the way for Acadiana’s brighter future are part of UWA’s These community stewards help secure safe passage of Acadiana’s future through program gifts that target expansion of The Leader in Me, increased investments in PACT United grants, and internal stewardship capacity. Lighthouse Society members ensure tomorrow’s leaders are trained today to become hard-working, self-reliant, tax-paying, contributing members of Acadiana’s workforce.

“Giving away money is easy. Giving away money in a way that makes a difference is not. Smart philanthropy is getting results - and getting results that get better over time.”

- Dr. Kip Schumacher
