Interested in health and wellness? Want a job where you can make a difference to people’s lives? Osteopathy is a form of diagnosis and treatment that focuses mainly on the muscles and joints of the body. Study osteopathy and you’ll learn how to treat all sorts of conditions – from sport injuries to whiplash to pregnancy-related pain. Explore your options Train to be an osteopath and you’ll learn how to help people with all sorts of different problems. Back, neck or joint pain, headaches or occupational injuries, osteopaths help everyone from young children to elderly people. First you’ll learn the theory with the Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Biology), where you’ll study the core sciences of anatomy, physiology and pathology, as well as osteopathic principles and techniques. You’ll put it into practice as a Master of Osteopathy student, treating real patients at our fully functioning osteopathy clinic on campus. You’ll be supervised every step of the way by experienced osteopaths who will help you build your clinical problem solving skills and osteopathic technique. And because osteopaths often set up their own clinical practice, you'll develop strong clinical management skills as well.

Study core biosciences such as anatomy and physiology, and clinical sciences like pathology. You'll also study osteopathic principles and techniques, and observe experienced osteopaths at our Mt Albert osteopathy clinic. Programme overview Osteopathy is a form of diagnosis and treatment that focuses mainly on the muscles and joints of the body and can make a real difference to a person’s quality of life. The Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Biology) will provide you with the foundation for our Master of Osteopathy programme where, once completed, you can apply to become a registered osteopath. During the first semester of the Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Biology), you’ll study core courses which introduce you to the world of health and social sciences. They’ll also teach you how to work collaboratively with a range of other health and social science students and lecturers. This includes face-to-face tutorials, online activities and self-directed study. From there, you’ll start to develop the hands-on skills that are key to practicing as an osteopath. You’ll find out how to improve and maintain people’s health and you’ll work with senior osteopathy students at Unitec’s Mt Albert osteopathy clinic. Highlights

If you successfully complete the programme with at least a final-year average grade of B, you can apply to enrol in our Master of Osteopathy programme. You'll need to successfully complete the master's programme to register with the Osteopathic Council of New Zealand, and to enter practice in New Zealand. Fast track option for human biology, health or sports science graduates If you have a health or sports science degree, you may be able to fast track your study and move straight into the second or third year of the Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Biology). Each applicant is considered on a case-by-case basis. A minimum of 14 credits at NCEA Level 2 or higher Mathematics or Pangarau

• Accredited by the Osteopathic Council of New Zealand

3. Complete a self-declaration of criminal convictions and medical conditions form.
