Internship Programme The Internship Programme (IP) was announced as a joint effort of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) together with its partners to provide opportunities to young women and men across Kosovo, who have graduated within the last two years (2018-2020) from higher and vocational secondary education institutions, to pursue 6-month internship in private sector enterprises and non-governmental organizations, to support internship with sustainable employment opportunities in Kosovo. The programme has identified enterprises and NGOs that have the potential to provide long-term employment opportunities for these young people coming from all municipalities across Kosovo. In addition to providing practical training opportunities, the Programme also aims to stimulate and support sustainable employment for these young people. The Internship Programme has been implemented together with the Employment Agency of Kosovo (EAK)/ Ministry of Finance, Labour and Transfers (MFLT), with technical support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kosovo/ Active Labour Market Programmes Project 2 (ALMP2). The Programme is supported financially by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS). Through the Programme, 392 young men and women who graduated in various fields had the opportunity to pursue internship in the Privat sector enterprises and NGOs in Kosovo and be equipped with professional experience in their fields of study, effectively preparing them for the labour market and for their intended career.

Conclusion

Through the Internship Programme (IP), young graduates over the two years (2018-2020) from higher and vocational secondary education institutions have successfully pursued professional internships in private sector enterprises and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Kosovo. 392 unemployed jobseekers have been placed as interns over the 6-month period of the Internship Programme throughout Kosovo.

Through the IP, enterprises/NGOs that have the potential to provide longterm employment have been identified and has been facilitated the entire process of identifying and matching jobseekers with the requirements of companies/NGOs. Young men and women who attended the internship during the 6 months of the Programme are equipped with the necessary practical knowledge in the professions they studied and have chosen to develop a career in the future and are also equipped with knowledge for the labour market in Kosovo. Thus, 392 young people acquired the necessary knowledge to join the labour market as professionals of the future in various fields in the labour market.

Furthermore, the Programme has increased the support for young people as an increased effort during the period of coping with the COVID-19 pandemic and the socio-economic consequences that the pandemic has brought. During this difficult period for all, these young people were given space to prepare professionally through practical work and to be one step closer to the labour market.
