Honoring the Class of 2020

My life is forever changed after my time at UMary. The education did not just give me knowledge for a degree, it helped me grow as a complete person. I went to UMary for a degree, but I came out strong in mind, body, and soul through the values and studies of the university. I will forever be so thankful to UMary for giving me the experience I did not know I needed. - Hannah Fischer “

Momentum The University of Mary was disappointed to cancel the Commencement Exercises scheduled for April 25, 2020. Rather than tentatively scheduling a diminished ceremony at a later time, there will be a combined Double Commencement on April 24, 2021 … almost exactly a year later. For the benefi t of both classes celebrating their graduation, we plan on a huge celebration party on campus afterwards with a live band, lots of festive food and drink, and a massive fi reworks display. At our fi rst President’s Seminar, Monsignor Shea walked into the room and simply stated, “Your life is not about you.” That phrase has stuck with me throughout these last four years. There are few moments in my life that I would describe as being bittersweet, but graduating is surely one of them. I am more than ready to leave academics behind me, but I am far from ready to leave the people I’ve met behind me. - Nick MacArthur “

Remembering Tayler Kopp

Tayler Kopp passed away on February 14, 2020. Tayler was pursuing a double major in elementary education and special education. Her professors and coworkers said she was a joy in class and a wonderful teacher. She was loved by many, including her husband, Alex, and son, Easton. Tayler was excited to meet her new baby boy, MacKinnon, in April, who sadly passed away the same day as his mother. Tayler was set to graduate this April. We were planning on honoring her at our commencement ceremony this year, awarding the degree that she worked so hard to obtain. Her family will receive her diploma on her behalf, and we are honored to have her as an alumna of the university.
