Magic, and he was a difficult one to manage for his soundness and because he was very careful. He needed a lot of confidence and a lot of accurate riding. I’d have to say he was probably my first horse that really, with the management of everything and also the riding, helped me progress. How it all started?

While I went to junior college in Virginia, I started to ride with Katie Prudent as a working student. When I graduated Katie offered me a job. I took that instead of going to University – which was my plan – because I did not know what I was going to pick as a major. I knew I liked horses and my parents were very supportive. I started working in 1987 for John, about five years later. I had already met him while working at Katie’s, as he was employed there too. Then he branched out starting his own business. He moved to a farm in Wisconsin. John one day said he wished he could get somebody like me to come and work for him. I simply said: “Well, why don’t you ask?” and I said yes. A lot of them, but if I have to choose: Athentic. I got him when he was 6 year old and he’s still with us, so we saw his whole journey. He has won three Olympic medals and two World Equestrian Games medals, so he will always be special to me.
