The Future City

Elisa De Wyngaert, Rebecca Arnold & Caroline Evans

E/motion shows us fashion as it used to be in the past and as it is today, in a state of continuous evolution: where are we now and where are we heading? How has the COVID-19 crisis accelerated the transformation of the fashion industry? An overview of the most drastic changes in the fashion world

E/motion zooms in on the global and irreversible transformation fashion is experiencing right now, a symptom of a bigger (systemic) social transition. Over the last couple of decades, fashion houses have evolved from authentic family companies to global corporations. Since the dawn of the designer fashion at the beginning of the 20th century, the role and place of the designer has drastically changed.

How has the interpretation of creativity, authorship, craft and innovation evolved in this new context? What is the role designers have to play in a globalised and digitalised fashion world? How do we historically frame the rise of fast fashion?

A must-have for everyone with a heart for fashion.
