MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID FOR YOUTH Research shows nearly

1 in 5

One in five youth will experience a mental health challenge at some point during their life.

17.5 m 17.1 million youth under the age of 18 have or have had a psychiatric disorder – more than the number of children with cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined.

7.4% 7.4% of children in the United States have a mental health visit in a given year.

Why Mental Health First Aid? Youth Mental Health First Aid USA is an 8 hour, two session public education program which introduces current UMD faculty and staff parents to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems for youth, and teaches parents how to help a youth in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. This workshop is open to all UMD faculty & staff

Mental Health First Aid uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions and provide initial help; and connect young people to professional, peer, social, and self-help care https://www.mentalhealthfirstaid.org/
