Bill’s election as leader of our profession in Florida follows a long tradition of leadership by graduates of our law school, such as past Florida Bar Presidents Scott Hawkins (vice chair of

FROM THE LAW CENTER ASSOCIATION This has been a banner year for our law school. Two barriers were broken this past year. Dean Laura A. Rosenbury completed her first year as the law school’s first full-time female dean, and, in the same year, I became the first Cuban-American chair of the board of trustees of the University of Florida Law Center Association. During her first year at the University of Florida, Dean Rosenbury has raised the bar on all criteria for excellence: from admissions, fundraising, scholarship and programming to enhancing the overall student experience.

the UF LCA), Mayanne Downs (JD 87), Eugene K. Pettis (JD 85), Gwynne A. Young (JD 74), and past ABA Presidents Martha Barnett (JD 73) and Stephen N. Zack (JD 71). Kathryn Kimball (JD 12) has made University of Florida Levin College of Law history as the first alum to be named to a United States Supreme Court clerkship. She will clerk for Justice Clarence Thomas during the 2018 term. The college plans to build on this year’s momentum for an even better 2017. The Gator tradition of leadership continues, and I am sure we will be reporting on our alumni’s great achievements next year. We also look to continue to increase the fundraising momentum in the FY17 fundraising year, both in total dollars and overall participation. Thank you for the gifts you’ve already made, or plan to make, by June 30, 2017.

In fact, college of law fundraising for FY16 was up by every metric. Combined commitments of cash gifts, new pledges and bequests exceeded the previous three fiscal years combined by nearly $1.1 million. And, unrestricted giving to the college’s Annual Fund surpassed $1 million for the first time.

Your Law School. Your Legacy. Eviana (JD 06) and Steven Martin (JD 06) who own Martin Law Firm in Fort Myers decided to support their alma mater through a bequest just six years after graduating from UF Law. Why? They wanted to celebrate what they received from UF Law: their educations and each other. “Everything we have right now is all due to UF Law, Eviana said. Their support ultimately strengthens the legal profession and the rule of law itself.
