Hello, Circle K Friends! I’m Josh, your Publicity Chair! Welcome to the first issue of our newsletter, The Monthly Clam! We’re starting off the new school year with a bang and I hope you enjoy reading about what our club has been doing! In this issue we’ll talk about awesome service events such as the Skypark Music Festival and Oktoberfest at Messiah Lutheran Church, as well as several other things that our club has been up to! Hopefully all of you are enjoying fall quarter and aren’t too neck deep in studying! If any of you are interested in submitting an article talking about your experience at one of our events, please don’t hesitate to contact me! Love, Josh

Oktoberfest at Messiah Lutheran Church 10/11/15

Man, oh man, where do I even start to talk about this amazing service event? Oktoberfest is a traditional German beer festival and this past month, Circle K had the opportunity to help Messiah Lutheran Church host their Oktoberfest! For those of you who don’t know, Messiah Lutheran Church is the bee’s knees, they’re always hooking us up with a spot to study, hang out, and host our socials and banquets. A few of the things we helped out with were exchanging money for tickets, selling baked goods, working in the kitchen, delegating certain duties, and so much more. All throughout the day members of the Messiah Lutheran Church complimented us and expressed how grateful they were to have our help, even after we accidentally took their bounce house down (the age limit is not a joke, people.)

Overall, I think everyone can agree that they had a blast at this service event and we’re definitely looking forward to helping out Messiah Lutheran Church again!

Boba Fundraiser 10/8/15

BOBA! Who doesn’t love boba? Although Fall is upon us, Santa Cruz refuses to believe so and decided it wanted a few more weeks of summer. Well, luckily for Circle K, this hot weather meant that students were going CRAZY for boba. We sold 170 drinks in just under 2 hours! A huge thank you to David Liang’s brother, Kevin for always hooking it up with the bubble tea.

In N Out Fundraiser 10/8/15 IN N OUT! Who doesn’t love In N Out? Ahhh yes, In N Out, one of the staples of California life. Unfortunately, as most of you know, there isn’t an In N Out in the Santa Cruz area. Not to worry, Circle K has you covered!

With the closest In N Out being in San Jose, Circle K took pre-orders and delivered to students who needed their In N Out fix. Yes, we’re the real MVPs.

Woodstock $1 Pizza Night Social 10/6/15

That’s right, our very first all-club social! The title is a little misleading considering the fact that we didn’t actually make it to Woodstock in time, but we still had a FANTASTIC time nonetheless.

After our second general meeting, we bussed it downtown for $1 pizza slice night at Woodstock Pizza. But alas, we were too late. Instead we ended up going to Quickly and getting boba (yay more boba!) while others went to Pizza My Heart to cheer on MDE Chair, Albert Chang, as he devoured a pepper.

Blue Phoenix Social 10/11/15 Woooooh! Our very first allfamily social, hosted by the wonderful Blue Phoenixes!

This social was held at the Crown/Merrill Community room and we played tons of fun games! One of these games was Just Dance 4 on the XBOX Kinect and oh boy things got a little crazy. Members were busting moves left and right, getting jiggy with it as the kids say. Afterwards, we decided to head downtown to hang out and eat at Saturn Café! For those of you who have never been, Saturn Café is right next to Walgreens and is entirely vegetarian and vegan. We enjoyed their super delicious shakes and yummy food!
