HOW MAJOR IS YOUR MAJOR? ACADEMIC CENTER FOR EXPLORATORY STUDENTS/THE MAJOR EXPERIENCE

Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts (JORG, D4) 10:00 a.m.

Everyone can benefit from taking the time to examine their options, whether they’re completely exploratory or already declared. This presentation will focus on the importance of elevating the student approach to major exploration by acknowledging and correcting misconceptions and demonstrating that choosing a major isn’t quite so major.

Navigating Your First Year

Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts (JORG, D4) 11:30 a.m.

This presentation addresses UConn’s nationally recognized approach to holistic student development through First Year Experience (FYE) courses, Peer Mentoring, the Academic Achievement Center, Supplemental Instruction, and Learning Communities. With over 90% of first-year students enrolling in FYE and its offerings, these personalized programs help students transition from high school to college and make the most of their education at the University of Connecticut.

With a variety of housing options, each with their own amenities, from volleyball courts to makerspaces, and 23 Dining Services locations on campus, hear from the departments of Residential Life and Dining Services about how students living on campus are supported and engaged.

At UConn, 45% of incoming first-year students choose to participate in a Learning Community. Join us to find out why! Explore which Learning Community might fit you best by engaging with our staff and student presenters; talking with faculty, staff, and students from each community; exploring the first and ground floors of Werth Tower, including the UConn Innovation Zone; and seeing what groundbreaking projects students are working on.

New students can opt to participate in a faculty-led Living-Learning Community or join a non-residential Learning Community when they enter UConn. With 34 Learning Communities, 21 of which are residential, there are options for students in any major or plan of study.

These seven campus departments support the social and cultural needs of our students, offering an atmosphere of support, guidance, and advocacy, along with numerous resources for the entire community.
