Messages from the GM

Dear Members,

Thank you for your patience during this time of unprecedented challenge for our beloved UClub. In the two months since our world suddenly halted, we have been focused on serving our members and taking care of the Club. As we face our new reality together, our attention has shifted to operational continuity during this extended remote period. I want to take this opportunity to provide some updates regarding the operations of the UClub.

First and foremost, on behalf of the entire administrative team, I hope that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. Please allow me to be among the many to encourage you to continue to practice social distancing and adhere to all CDC health and safety guidelines. All of us are counting on each other to do our part in defeating COVID-19. so that we may see one another in person again soon.

We are in the eye of the storm right now, and it has been a surreal, often uncertain, few months for all of us. The persistent messages telling us to “isolate” and “keep your social distance” can make us feel alone; but I am reminded by all of your emails, messages, and encouragement every day that physical connections are not nearly as strong as emotional ones. We are not alone. And we will weather this storm by continuing to take care of ourselves and each other.

Second, I’d like to share some of the steps we’ve taken to ensure that the critical needs of our Club and our members, continues to operate efficiently and effectively.

• Board Leadership: The board of Directors continue to meet via video conferencing multiple times a month to keep on top of the financial success of the Club.

• PPP loan: The generous donations from many of you, our members, are helping us stay abreast of critical operating expenses. We have now also secured a coveted PPP loan to help us ensure that our staff is fully compensated for their hard work.

• Prepared food, grocery and

wine To-Go Program: A new menu is sent out every week with up to 60 items to choose from in addition to a wine list with over 20 wines to choose from. If you are not receiving the weekly emails, please let me know at Sarah.Rudd@ uclubsb.org

Peters for hosting the monthly UClub Book Club meetings virtually via Zoom. It has been a really wonderful way for members to stay connected.

• New Website Launch: We are very excited to announce that the new and improved UClub website will be launching later this month! You will be receiving an email with more information and your new login credentials the day of the launch (estimated around May 20th!). If you do not receive this email by the end of this month, or if you encounter any problems with the new site, please let Ammanjah know at: memberservices@uclubsb. org.

• Mother’s Day Brunches: Thank you to everyone for the lovely feedback and photos of our To-Go Brunch Baskets for Mother’s Day. Like you, we were very sad to miss out on our annual Mother’s Day brunch here at the Club. We are so thankful that we were still able to offer you a special Mother’s Day spread, albeit not together this year. How sweet it will be to sit together on the lawn for Mother’s Day again next year! We are already looking forward.

I’ve been so inspired by our Board of Directors and Finance Committee’s collective response to this crisis. There are countless examples of Board members

selflessly committing themselves to the success and well-being of our Club. I want to personally thank our President Lacy Taylor, our Past President Leonard Himelsein, and our Finance Chair Jack Heine for going above and beyond.

Third, we have received many inquiries as to how you can help us during this difficult time. While we recognize that there are significant threats facing our world, it is impossible to minimize what is happening in our own lives. As we assess the economic impacts on our community as a result of the pandemic, my primary request at this time is for you to continue to show your support and love of your Club.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if we can be helpful with absolutely anything at all. I have the utmost faith and confidence that we will prevail by being true to our priorities, staying connected, taking personal responsibility, relying on each other, and deepening our commitment to face this adversity together.

I wish you the best and look forward to seeing you again soon.
