SUPPORTING LOCAL GOVERNMENTS IN THE MEDITERRANEAN
UCLG together with its members will support the Tunisian Local Governments in the reform process that is taking place in the context of the Arab Spring. As chair of the Executive Committee of Cities Alliance, UCLG has offered donor governments and agencies that are planning to invest in the Mediterranean and North African region, support in identifying partners and structuring the dialogue between the local authorities and the development stakeholders. A first exploratory mission took place on 5-7 March, integrated by the World Secretariat, Diputacion of Barcelona, and Cit茅s Unies France. The Association of Tunisian Municipalities as well as the City of Tunis were the local counterparts to this activity. The political conference took place on 28-30 May and was supported by the Diputaci贸n of Barcelona, the UCLG Committee for the Mediterranean and the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. This conference has served as a basis for the definition of technical work-plans for development agencies and has greatly contributed to improving the capacity of local authorities in Tunisia in contributing to the Constitutional process in their country.
