ENTERTAINMENT Film Scoring Certificate
One of the top film scoring programs in the world, our certificate program gives students the opportunity to score cues for films, television shows, and video games. Instruction emphasizes maximizing a project’s budget by composing music both electronically using MIDI and using professional union musicians. Students learn the essential creative, business and technical skills needed for a successful career in film scoring. By the program end, participants have composed and produced many pieces suitable for their professional reels. All certificate students become eligible to compete for the bi-annual BMI/Jerry Goldsmith Film Scoring Scholarship competition after completing one quarter of classes.

Directing Certificate
With a focus on independent filmmaking, the Directing Certificate teaches participants the essential principles of the art and craft of directing. Our instructors mentor students in the role of story, directing actors, and the aesthetics of filmmaking, as well as the practical responsibilities of the director. Using the student’s own equipment, directing workshops offer a comprehensive hands-on component. Beginning with simple exercises, students progress to directing their original short film, and have opportunities to submit to the UCLAxFilmFest competition and network with peers and industry professionals. Courses are offered both in-person and remote.
