OLLI Movie Club Wednesdays, 3:30–4:30pm, January 11, February 8, March 8 The OLLI at UCLA Movie Club is centered around watching quality, modern films and having a discussion afterwards. The facilitator will select films that are available on Netflix; members should screen the film at home before meeting with the group on Zoom. Discussions center around story, symbolism, cinematography, presentation, and of course—our personal reactions to the films. Films are announced one week before each meeting. Enroll anytime throughout the quarter to join in on the fun! REG# 389830 | INSTRUCTOR: Sharon Boorstin REMOTE: Zoom information is emailed to students two days before the course begins.

Exploring Childhood through Film {New Course} Fridays, 1-3:30pm, January 13 - February 17 Beginning in the 1950's, movies about children became less sentimental and more realistic and challenging. In this course, we watch six films that have stood the test of time, remaining as relevant now as they were when they were created decades ago. To Kill a Mockingbird is a courtroom drama about two brave children and an extraordinary father who tries to protect an innocent black man in the racially prejudiced south. Searching for Bobby Fisher explores the dangers of exploiting talented children, Big tenderly follows a young boy who magically wakes up as an adult. The Squid and the Whale dramatizes the impact of divorce on two adolescent siblings, E.T. features a magical visitor who helps two children cope with their parents' divorce, and Spanglish arranges a benevolent collision between a wealthy but dysfunctional American family and a Spanish housekeeper. REG# 390524 | INSTRUCTOR: Brandon French IN-PERSON: UCLA Extension Gayley Center, 1145 Gayley Ave, Room 114A
