My choice to come to UCD was natural - no other college was offering a Law Masters in Intellectual Property & Information Technology Law. While other colleges perhaps could have taught these courses, UCD offered me the best and most exciting staff and program to work with. Their courses bring forward a greater awareness of current and potential future legal issues than most other colleges. Even while working full time, UCD provided me with an exceptional education, ways to work college into my busy schedule, and opportunities to enhance my lectures with external conferences. When the time came to decide my next step, the staff were hugely supportive, and helped me apply for a PhD and a scholarship. I am now happily pursuing a PhD in my top choice school once again - UCD.

I’ve always been interested in both disciplines of law and psychology, so for me the LLM in Criminology and Criminal Justice suited my interests perfectly. My year in UCD has greatly broadened my perspectives and horizons for my future, as the specialisation of this masters in criminology and criminal justice has provided a good platform for future career development opportunities or doctoral studies. UCD has a very energetic and student friendly atmosphere and lecturers are extremely supportive and encouraging. I found it really easy to settle in during my studies for this year and I’m currently pursuing a career within the area of restorative justice and the probation services and aiming towards completing a PhD in Law. As a graduate of Business and Law, I took a keen interest in EU affairs and sought to pursue a Master of Laws (LLM) in European Law and Public Affairs at UCD. It is an ideal postgraduate programme for those interested in law, politics, international relations, the EU, and current affairs. The course offers a healthy mixture of legal subjects pertaining to the European Union, in addition to politics and international relations, which perfectly complement each other. Studying EU law in all its various forms really enhanced my education and my understanding of the formulation and application of EU law throughout the EU member states. At UCD, time spent outside lectures is just as important as the time spent inside. This master’s degree offers students the opportunity to develop the edge that is vital for competing in a competitive graduate environment. I currently work as a parliamentary and political adviser to a member of Dáil Éireann, who is Chairman of an Oireachtas Joint Committee. Graham Butler LLM ELPA Graduate 2013

The LLM in Commercial Law offered by UCD is a great course. The programme offers a diverse range of subjects and the dissertation module gave me the opportunity to conduct independent research in my particular field of interest. The School of Law provides excellent supports to students to assist them in completing the dissertation, with students being assigned an individual supervisor who is an expert within the particular field of research. The small class sizes for the taught modules mean that students are able to discuss and really analyse the subject matter, which I believe has helped me to further develop my ability to identify and analyse problems from a legal perspective. Overall, I found the Commercial Law LLM programme to be very current and practically focused, and I would highly recommend it to students interested in commercial law. As a representative of professional pilots in Ireland, the UCD Professional Diploma in Employment Law helped me to understand the origins and nuances of the current legislation and authorities. The course covers all the relevant areas of employment law in depth, including the importance of SI 146 to the elusive Supreme Court ‘dictionary definition’ of collective bargaining. In my view the diploma is a must-have qualification for all practitioners in the front line of employment issues of right and of interest. The course is given by two practising barristers, who are passionate about their subject. This passion, combined with the diversity of students attending, all bring a spectrum of views and strongly held opinions, which enrich and enlighten the classroom debate. For a number of years, I have been interested in the Graduate Diploma in Arbitration at the UCD School of Law. As an architectural UCD graduate living in Dublin, I was fortunate to have the UCD option so immediately available and the one-year diploma course has been hugely enriching and rewarding. Over the year, the subject range covered the broad area of Alternative Dispute Resolution with a particular focus on arbitration. The combination of small class size, lecture series, and workshops have been a well structured and positive learning experience. I would have to single out the input of the various teaching staff, which was an essential part of the experience. The range of attendees at the course also provided for diverse viewpoints and lively discussion between the property professionals and those from the legal world. The entire experience was a very positive and rewarding one, and I would recommend it to anybody involved in construction contracts or related contractual areas. My only regret is not having taken the course earlier than I did. Brian Kavanagh Diploma in Arbitration
