Page numbers in Word (1 starting after first page) 1. Place cursor on the page of the document where you want to start numbering. If there is text there, place cursor at beginning of text. Click “Page Layout” tab, >“Breaks” >“Next Page” under “Section Breaks”

2. Double click in header or footer area where you want to display page numbers. This will open the Design tab under Header & Footer Tools 3. Go to the “Design” tab and click the “Link to Previous” button. This will break the link from the previous section and allow you to begin numbering here. 4. Click Page Number and pick a location and style for the number. 5. Click “Page Number” in the “Header and Footer” section of the “Design” tab and then click “Format Page Number” The “Format Page Number” dialogue box will open. 6. Select “Start At” and type the number “1” into the box. Click “OK”. 7. When you’re done, click Close Header & Footer.
