tudent Affairs is a great workplace because I work here. It starts with me, and here is what I can do to help:

In a great workplace, the following three core values must be present for me to thrive:

Research from Great Place to Work demonstrates that trust is at the core of a great workplace, along with camaraderie and pride.

What is a Great Workplace? Great workplaces are built through the day-to-day relationships that staff experience — not employee perks. The key factor in common in these relationships is TRUST. Fortune 100 BEST WORKPLACES are based on best practices of pride, trust, and camaraderie. Staff have a great workplace when they: TRUST the people they work for Have PRIDE in what they do ENJOY the people they work with

Benefits of Trust and Engagement in the Workforce The world’s top-performing organizations understand that employee engagement is a force that drives success. Research shows that engaged employees who trust their management perform 20% better and are 87% less likely to leave, resulting in easier recruitment and decreased training costs. Gallup’s Employee Engagement Ratio is an indicator of an organization’s health.

It Starts with You: Take the Culture Challenge Aspirational Culture Statement “Student Affairs at UC Berkeley is a great workplace where staff trust the people they work with, take pride in what they do, and feel a sense of community in support of the student experience. Take the culture challenge to experience trust, pride, and community. Step 1: TRUST * Assume positive intent with colleagues. Practice respect and fairness with every staff member and student you encounter on campus.

Step 2: PRIDE * Reflect on the work within your job that is meaningful and how it makes a difference for students and colleagues. BONUS: Think about how one of your colleagues makes a difference for others and tell them how much they positively impact your organization! Step 3: COMMUNITY * Invite a colleague to lunch who you don’t normally eat with, sit with someone new at break, or take a 10 minute walk around Berkeley together.
