Our Next Leaders Empower
Coming in as a first-generation student—one in the nearly 30 percent who comprise UC’s campuses—Dianiesha “Dee” Jackson knew this university could change her life.
Through donor-supported scholarships and enrichment funds in UC’s groundbreaking Gen-1 Program, Dee excelled academically studying organizational leadership. She grew as a campus leader, interned with Macy’s and even studied abroad in Vietnam (twice).
Now sitting in the Downtown Cincinnati office of Macy’s, where she is in the executive development program, Dee still thinks about how far she has come. She credits it all to her family who has supported her, and to the donors who have empowered her.

In 1817, Dr. James Parkinson first described a then-unknown frontier of medical science: people’s shared abnormalities of movement.
Today, Parkinson’s disease affects 10 million people worldwide. It has been incurable for nearly 200 years—but Alberto Espay, MD, wants to change that.
Helping people with this disease has been Dr. Espay's longtime passion. As director and endowed chair for the UC James J. and Joan A. Gardner Family Center for Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders, Dr. Espay is accelerating internationally renowned, donor-supported Parkinson's research right here in Cincinnati.
Through his discoveries, Dr. Espay is bringing new hope to Parkinson's patients everywhere. He is redefining how the scientific world approaches this disease, and is paving the generation-defining path toward its first cure.

What once was an aging building in the heart of Avondale is now brimming with big ideas against our urban backdrop. It is the creative commons that Associate Professor Aaron Bradley now cal ls home, and it is a differentiator that makes UC unlike any other.
The 1819 Innovation Hub (iHub) is flipping the script on traditional education because, as Bradley says, innovation doesn’t belong to any one major or college. In this cross-disciplinary marketplace, students and faculty can come together with corporate and community partners to solve actual problems facing their companies, and their causes.
