Corinne Abrams became interested in public health while growing up on the Tuscarora Indian Reservation north of Buffalo. “I saw many health disparities firsthand,” she says. “Being able to understand the underlying reasons for disease in my community became important to me.” Abrams chose to learn about disease and prevention through the UB master’s program in public health. She was able to afford a graduate education through a diversity scholars program, supported by the UB Fund. A fulltime student who works and raises a family, Abrams said she has “deep appreciation” for UB donors, whose support means she will someday bring public health programs to her community. Gifts to the UB Fund have an immediate impact on students.
