Rocco “Rocky” Vetro, 87, of Quakertown, died Monday, July 24, 2017 at Grand View Hospital, Sellersville. He was the loving husband of Martha (Schlegel) Vetro for 45 years. Born in Bayonne, New Jersey, he was a son of the late Bruno and Rosaria (Fornino) Vetro. Rocky served with the US Army during the Korean War. For 30 years he served as Lieutenant with the FDNY Ten House, the fire department that was among the hardest hit on 9/11, which was a few years after he retired. Even at his advanced age he remained on the phone for hours that day, desiring to go back and offer what help he could. Rocky hardly ever found spare time, but when he did he enjoyed golfing. Most of his time was spent either helping his family or being Mr. Fix-It. He was a “Jack of All Trades” and could do anything from electric work to fixing cars to building frames for houses, and he had a full shop in his basement. He was a member of St. Isidore’s Catholic Church, Quakertown. Surviving with his wife Martha are his sons: Rocco Vetro and Gary Vetro, wife Stacie, all of Quakertown; grandchildren: Rocco Philip, Wyatt Alexander and Ashton; and his brotherin-law, Andrew Schlegel, wife Caroline, of Northport, Long Island. She was the loving wife of Joseph S. Grey for 64 years and had just celebrated their anniversary this past June 20th. Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Louis C. and Rosa R. (Blankenhorn) Heck. Regina was a full-time mom who liked to sew in earlier years, and often made dresses for her daughters. She loved birds and bird-watching, and enjoyed planting flowers at her home. She was a member of St. Isidore’s Catholic Church, Quakertown. Donald C. Poulton, 83, of Allentown, died on Thurs., July 27th, at Luther Crest Retirement Community, Allentown. He was the husband of the late Ann Marie (Horne) Poulton. Born in Quakertown, he was the son of the late Claude and M. Naomi (Schaeffer) Poulton. Donald worked at the former U.S. Gauge Ametek Division, Sellersville for over 30 years. In his free time he enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, riding his bicycle, and working on puzzles. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Quakertown. Surviving are his children: Brian Poulton of Moorpark, CA; Jeffrey Poulton of Temecula, CA; John Poulton of Tampa, FL, and Karen Brenner of Palm Bay, FL; Grandchildren: Rachel, Emily, Justine, Alexa, Cheyenne, and Dimitri. Dorothea Mae Geiger, age 89, of Meadville passed away on Friday, July 28, 2017 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community. She was born on April 21, 1928 in Quakertown, PA. The daughter of the late F. Leroy Strunk and Ethel Unangst Strunk. Dorothea was married to Raymond F. Geiger for 58

years. He preceded her in death on May 9, 2006. Dorothea graduated from Quakertown High School in 1946. Following high school, Dorothea graduated from Allentown Business College in 1948. She was employed for many years as a secretary/bookkeeper at Thermco Products Corporation in Quakertown. She was a member of St. Isidore’s Roman Catholic Church in Quakertown. Dorothea was an avid reader. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, classic movies, her dogs, and luncheons with friends. Her greatest love in life was her family. She was a caring and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her devotion to family will be passed on. She will be sadly missed. She is survived by two daughters: Beverly Graves and her husband Larry of Zionsville, PA, and Linda Harrison and her husband James of Dutton, VA, two sons: David Geiger and his wife Linda of Meadville, PA, and Michael Geiger of San Diego, CA, six grandchildren: David M. Geiger and his wife Abigail, Mark Geiger and his wife Rachael, Larry Graves and his wife Alyssa, Christopher Graves, Jennifer Harrison, James Harrison and his wife Diana, and one great granddaughter: Savannah Mae Geiger. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothea was preceded in death by a twin sister at birth, a brother: Ralph Strunk, a son Raymond Geiger, and a grandson: Thomas Ferrara. A memorial service for Dorothea will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Inurnment will take place at Union Cemetery in Quakertown, PA. Susan M. Roberts, 71, of Milford Square died July 29, 2017 in St. Luke’s University Hospital, Bethlehem. She was the wife of Daniel A. Roberts, III. They would have shared 50 years of marriage on May 11, 2018. Born in Cheltenham, England she was the daughter of the late C. Richard & Anne (Tilling) Strunk. Susan was the great granddaughter of the founder of the C. R. Strunk Funeral Home. Susan was a 1963 graduate of Quakertown High School and Bethlehem Business School. She loved Christmas and decorating the house both inside and outside. She was also a member of the Red Cross and enjoyed their yearly beach trips to Avalon, NJ. She was a member of Grace Bible Fellowship Church and former member of First United Church of Christ both in Quakertown. Survivors: In addition to her husband she is survived by a son Dale A. Roberts and his wife Laura of Reading, and a daughter Brenda A. Roth and her husband Chris of Quakertown. Four grandchildren Dale A. Roberts, II, Christian D. Roberts, Caleb R. Roth, and Megan S. Roth. Burial will be private. Arla E. Slifer, 85, of Quakertown, died at her home Sun., July 30, 2017. She was the loving wife of John Slifer, Sr. Born in Bingen, she was the only child of Joseph H. and Mary A. (Fluck) Landis. Arla was a nursing school graduate, and worked for many years as a Licensed Practical Nurse for what is now Phoebe Richland Nursing Center in Richlandtown. Surviving with her husband are three sons: Robert Fry, Jr., companion Denise Shive, of Quakertown; Donald Fry, wife Karen, of Pennsburg and John Slifer, Jr., wife Wendy, of Hatfield; six grandchildren: Gideon, Sarah, Arielle, Rachel, Brett and Alayna; and a great-granddaughter, Gracelyn. Dolly was a member of Grace Community Church in Chalfont. She is survived by a son Roger A. and his wife Joanne M. of Hatfield, a daughter in law Carol E. of Telford. Virginia I. Bloom, 91, of Quakertown, died Tues. Aug. 1st at Phoebe Richland Health Care Center, Richlandtown. She was the wife of the late J. Floyd Bloom. Born in Gladwin, MI, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Vienna (Bowen) Nunn. She worked for the former H.C. Kulp Jewelry for 19 years and previously worked for the Ede Motor Company 21 years. Surviving are her sons, Greg Ede, wife Renee of Quakertown, and Jeffrey Ede; grandchildren, Benjamin, Ridge, and Sabrina; brother, James Nunn of Snover, MI. Aug. 4 in Richlandtown. He was the husband of the late Virginia (Phifer) Jester. Born in Phila., he was a son of the late Charles Jester & Rosemary (Lang) Jester Everitt. He worked as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service out of the Glenside Post Office for 31 years before retiring. After retiring, he was a transport driver for Lynch Community Homes for 17 years. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Quakertown. Surviving children are Mary Rita Flynn (Michael), Stephen Jr. (Kellie), Virginia Gavin, George (Katherine), John, Thomas, Eleanor Batschelet , & Margaret “Maggie” McMahon (Joe); 29 grandchildren & 7 great-grandchildren. He was the husband of Martha V. (Bast) Hallowell. They were married 61 years last October. Born in Milford Township he was the son of the late Walter J. Hallowell & Frances (Roth) Krammer. He was also the step-son of the late Ernest Krammer. He was a life member of Coopersburg Fire Company and a life member of the Coopersburg Lions Club. Ronald was Haaptmon of the “Grundsow Lodsch Nummer Fortzay” (President of Groundhog Lodge #14). He was an avid Phillies Fan and NASCAR fan. He was a member of St. John’s UCC in Coopersburg. “Pop” had a fierce love for all of his grandchildren, his world revolved around them. In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons Alan (Barbara), Darren, and Chris (Theresa). A brother Walter Hallowell (Marie), a sister Nancy McKinney (Mac). Five grandchildren Sandi Yaich, Kelly Hallowell, Matthew Hallowell, Jeniffer Hallowell, and Christopher Hallowell. He is also survived by his Aunt Elsie Wolonick and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara Krammer. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s UCC 538 Thomas Street Coopersburg, PA 18036. Hubert W. “Herb” Ewer, 87, of Sellersville, died at his home on Tues., Aug. 8, 2017. Born in Buckingham Twp., he was a son of the late Theodore, Sr. and Margaret S. (Steever) Ewer. He served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. For many years Herb was a truck driver. Later he worked on the family farm with his dad and brothers, and he was an excellent farmer. Most recently he was a security guard at Suekle’s Roadside Stand on the grounds where he lived. Herb lived and worked his entire life the way he wanted to, and no one could tell him any different. Surviving are his brothers, Theodore Ewer, Jr. and Lloyd Ewer, both of Quakertown. Interment will be private and at the conve-
