Computer Skills Computer skills workshops feature hands–on instruction in classes of 10 students or fewer.

NEW REDUCED PRICING: $20 UB students, $30 UB staff and alumni, $45 general public; payment is required to reserve a seat Dreamweaver Part I Instructor: Sandi Clay Learn to create your own website using Adobe Dreamweaver, one of the most powerful and popular tools for creating Web pages. By the end of the four-hour workshop, you’ll have created a sample site ready for publishing to the Web. UB students, staff and faculty can publish their sites using their UB accounts; non-UB attendees require an established hosting account. Adobe Dreamweaver CS 5 will be used. Specific Topics: identifying what’s new in Adobe Dreamweaver CS5; managing domain names and hosting; setting up project files and defining a local folder; learning website design fundamentals (layouts, templates, HTML/Dreamweaver relationship); refining design skills (images, tables, divs, links, anchors/bookmarks, CSS basics); designing interactive website elements (pop–up windows, dynamic Web page behaviors, navigation menus) Prerequisites: familiarity with the Internet; Langsdale Library’s Introduction to HTML workshop is recommended but not required Saturday, May 21 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Saturday, July 23 1:30–5:30 p.m. Dreamweaver Part II Instructor: Sandi Clay Take your Dreamweaver skills to the next level. This four-hour workshop covers more Web design fundamentals, additional site design options and an overview of how to make your site search engine friendly. Adobe Dreamweaver CS 5 will be used. Specific Topics: using Spry assets; learning more CSS techniques; using SEO tools; adding sound and video; modifying templates (editable and non-editable regions); understanding browser compatibility

Prerequisites: completion of Dreamweaver Part I or equivalent knowledge of Dreamweaver Saturday, May 28 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Saturday, July 30 1:30–5:30 p.m. Microsoft Excel Part I Instructor: John Brenner Create and edit spreadsheets and work with large or multiple worksheets at once. This workshop is appropriate for users of Microsoft Office 97, 2000, 2003 and 2007; Office 2007 will be used. A practice assignment is included. Specific Topics: different ways of performing the same operations, including shortcuts; inserting, deleting, cutting, copying and pasting data, rows and columns; working with multiple worksheets; working with cell ranges; numeric formatting; saving and AutoSave; using the fill series feature; sizing, wrapping and orienting text; merging cells; introduction to managing formulas, borders and shading; creating headers and footers; freezing rows and columns Prerequisites: basic keyboard and mouse skills; basic understanding of any Windows environment Friday, May 27 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Microsoft Excel Part II Instructor: John Brenner Expand your knowledge of Excel spreadsheets. Generate charts and graphs, perform calculations using formulas and functions, and add hyperlinks. This workshop is appropriate for users of Microsoft Office 97, 2000, 2003 and 2007; Office 2007 will be used. A practice assignment is included. Specific Topics: understanding order of operations; using functions; copying and pasting formulas; mastering AutoCalculate and AutoSum, absolute and relative cell references, naming constants, and automatic and manual recalculations; creating charts and graphs; using macros; relating worksheets; creating hyperlinks Prerequisites: completion of Excel Part I or equivalent knowledge of Excel Friday, June 3 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Saturday, Aug 27, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. 2
